Rode Turkey New Year's Eve morning and it was in great shape. At that time it didn't need a saw anywhere but that may have changed after the winds last night. There are a few seeps in expected spots but you can just ride right through them and the leaves tend to protect the already hard packed surface in those spots. Other than that, I highly recommend getting out on this trail.

Tried to get to FS 618 via Turkey Creek. Ran into this about 100' into the trail... [ [/URL] The first bridge is under there somewhere.

Happy to report that the trail is ridable again. Took my newly converted single speed out for a shake down run. Water in a few drainages but nothing major. Spent the ride out mainly clearing debris. Only thing I couldn't clear was a big log that's washed up at mile 2. Two people might be able roll it out of the way. Bridges survived. The boardwalk lost a couple boards and the last bridge lost one plank. Rode non stop on the way back but wasn't easy. I started to feel the effects of the single speed. Also missed my 29" tires.

Nevin, Ted Stoddard and I cleared Turkey and Wine today. They were in surprisingly good shape except for some long stretches that are holding water. In a few days they will be perfect. As usual, I encourage everyone to try out these trails. They need wheels and riding them will strengthen certain riding skills you don't get to work on at FATS or Bartram, plus, the trails are gorgeous. Anyway, right after we got past the cul de sac, Nevin's starter cord broke so we spent about 30 minutes fixing it and we were lucky to get it done because we didn't exactly have the best tools. Luckily, Ted wasn't there yet so we called him and he brought the tool we needed along with a machete (so he could pretend to be Indiana Jones bushwhacking through the rainforest). Here are a few pics from TC and I'll post the same update on the Wine trail conditions along with some pics of a bridge we levered back into place (that's a special surprise for the Wine lovers out there). Turkey is in pristine condition, 100% clear of trees, the undergrowth hasn't started to grow back up yet, some water left in low spots but not enough to slow ya down. The series of deep dips mid way through are soft and slippery.

....Also FS 619 from coon creek all the way to the first bridge on turkey creek trail is clear. The forest service had run a machine down the rd from the gate at the end of 619 all the way up to cedar springs. Its a little soft right now but completely clear. The second half from cedar springs back to turkey creek was mowed earlier in the year, and is still completely clear.

USFS just notified us that there is a planned burn tomorrow at Turkey/Wine Creek. Of course prescribed burns are subject to weather and other conditions, but we thought we would share.
If we hear otherwise or get an update from the USFS we will let you know.
Thank you for your support.

Turkey creek is awesome post burn!! A little water left in the drains and creeks but not a big deal. The board walk got crushed again by a big pine, needs chain saw work, not a big deal to just hop over, The three big dips are all wet muddy and slippery on the bottom, caution is advised. Really fun .. looks totally different with all the under brush burned away.

Tread is perfectand dry but typical Summer overgrowth is taking over sections. There are 6 trees down that need a chainsaw. 4 in the first 4 miles from Key bridge.
Power company cut the powerlines and the heavy equipment destroyed the trail. You can see where it enters the woods on both sides but no clear line across.
We need to schedule a work day for Turkey and Wine soon if they're going to continue to be rideable brfore Fall. I'll be glad to give a day with a WP or as a CS mule.

Nevin and Mark Hanna took out about 7 trees today on Turkey and I only snagged this pic of the first one because I was trail running/walking with Morry and only got about 2.5 miles in. The guys rode the whole trail and said it's in great shape now except for needing the DR work which should happen in August. LOVE this trail. P.S. ~ if Mark thinks he's going to take my place swamping, he's got another thing coming. ;o) Quick edit...Mark took this pic...last tree cut today: My new trail running partner, Morry (short for Morpheus Sandman Lambert): Tired boy:

7 New trees down on TC in only a few weeks. Two are large but of those one is rotten so it shouldn't be hard to cut. The other five are 6-10". None are really in spots that pose a danger of collision.

Not surprising just so glad it is mountain bikers showing up for these rides so trees across the trail are to be expected.
Sometimes we clear so many trees off the trails in a given year you would think we would notice bald spots along the trails but they seem to fall and you never really notice the absence.

4 or so non riders down w/in a mile after crossing the powerline headed out. Also, a big dead tree fell on the very end of the Big bridge at the trailhead. It crashed through the railings but the deck of the bridge held.
