From another thread: Dec 30, 2013 10:44:41 GMT -5 gospeedlite said: Couple of us spent about 5 hours last Friday working on the new section along pond. Lots of leaves/pine straw swept and new growth cut back. Trail just needs riders and is easy to follow again. Trail remains tricky in spots though. Old style riding! Is the trail ok to ride as far as wetness? I hope to ride it soon for the first time. If any trail in the CSRA is going to be dry, it will be Boyd Pond. Sandy, hilly, and the most challenging 5 miles around, Boyd Pond is the go-to trail when the others are too wet. Here is a link to last Saturday's EtTR at Boyd Pond sorbacsra.proboards.com/post/24457/thread. Other than a few puddles in the parking lot, you would never know riding this trail that it rained in the month of December or early January.

Trail is one of the best in the area at handling precipitation. Almost no seeps except one on the nature trail just past old ropes course. Tacky at worst!

Some new trees down after the big winds earlier this week. One rider just past boardwalk headed up around ball fields and one non rider near the 7 marker. Otherwise lots of light sticks/deadfall.

Thanks....trail is currently in top notch form. A few of us have been getting a lot of laps in. It's fast, flowy, and fun!

Trail was hit hard by the ice storm. The single track is almost impassable. We ran the entire section and it was slow going. It is going to take a significant amount of volunteer time to clean up. We started today by clearing the nature trail from the trail head to the bridge. We will focus our near term attention to getting the nature trail fully recovered and then on to the single track. This will allow for access to different sections of single track to clean multiple sections at a time.

I worked on the single track east of the nature trail for 7.5 hours this weekend. Cleared almost everything from the south lot/trail head to just past the Doldrums sign, left 3 or 4 riders and removed probably 40-50 non-riders (got tired of counting) along with many limbs. In Linda's Hobble theres a series of snags left that I think would be best solved by a minor reroute (not sure if we are allowed to reroute at Boyd Pond). From the Doldrums back to the nature trail near the bridge there are probably 15-20 non-riders left. I didn't look at the new single track along the pond. I might work on it a few days this week after work if anyone wants to join.

It's going to be a long slow recovery that's going to take a lot of man and woman hours on all the trails to get them back in order.

I cleared from the Nature trail clockwise to the top of the Gulch and started working on the back part of the new section until I ran out of light. I'll keep at it!

Today a couple of us finished clearing the old part of the single track east of the nature trail. The new 1.5 mile section is a work in progress. Thanks to anyone who has ever worked on Boyd Pond, I love this trail! I took some pictures but didn't do a good job with the afters and definitely didn't capture the worst spots. s64.photobucket.com/user/syounger2014/slideshow/

Many thanks... Trails in fabulous shape; especially considering all the damage. We were working on a cluster of downed tree tops just past upper bridge and a pile at bottom of free ride when new we over stressed our loopers but you can clamber through both. Will get this weekend.

Boyd Pond is completely clear. We cleared the last tree/vine mess and 5-6 widow makers, leaners, or trees that, when they fall, would put a hurting on you. A huge thanks to Seth, Jon, and the Aiken contingent for doing most of the work to clear Boyd Pond. Today, Paul and Seth were clearing the space above the trail, so you can ride safely. Although Boyd Pond Park is technically closed, because it is being used as a staging area for ice storm debris, the trail was bone dry. Before After a bit of cutting, lopping, and sawing You haven't been doing enough trail work unless you have the scars, scrapes, or scratches to show for it. Unfortunately, one of us got tagged real good today by the sharp end of a broken pine tree.

One footnote. Still one tangle at bottom of free ride but a clear route around it to rider's left. Also talked to park super. He asked all riders and runners to respect his posted signs as he could face big liabilities otherwise if something happened. A truly amazing amount of cleanup has been done there!
