Probaly just as well I wasn't the one who encountered them. I would not have been a good ambasssador for SORBA.
Agree MY. I wasn't going to say much on this one. Trying to stay way under the radar. Never have been a great ambassador, but I don't usually have a problem speaking my mind. Sounds like this JA deserved a comment or two, to his face. Then again, a couple of rides in conditions such as this results in mucho dinero spent on drivetrain repairs. That will stop you in your tracks. MD
Totally understand guys and I did state my case but I was out there alone, he was pretty intense and there was nothing to be gained but personal satisfaction if I went off on him. It wasn't going to change the outcome unfortunately! : )

On the other hand I chatted with a couple and their two daughters yesterday that are down for the week from Atlanta. The wife was hiking but told her about Bartram since she had a comfort bike at the campground. For every negative person on the trail you meet 10-20, well way more awesome people.

Totally agree, I've been out on these trails since they opened and the others even longer and trail users are a great community of people. We've spoken with a lot of people and it is so rare to pick up any kind of negative vibe.
A few days back they were predicting 70% chance of rain on Thursday, that has now dropped to 30% for Thursday and Friday. Hopefully for the sake of the Master's and for a great weekend of riding, that rain is of no consequence or perhaps misses the trails altogether.

I'm just saying this is why I don't need to be a face of the organization; I don't have a lot of patience with inconsiderate jerks like that, and as soon as he popped off at me it would be on like Donkey Kong. He would have left here with a clear understanding that he was not welcome back, and that is not the impression we need to leave with visitors. (one that the local club are a-holes)

Report back from scout on GW and Skinny - trails are being untaped. Traveling CCW on both the first half of GW has most of the wetter areas, great after the bench. On Skinny it is that last mile of trail that has most of the active seeps.
There is a 30% chance of rain for Thursday and Friday, hopefully we can dodge the bullet and have great weather through the weekend.
Thanks to everyone who continues to respect the tape and protect the trails (and I know the volunteers who work so hard to maintain these trails appreciate it too)!

Front moved through but does not look like it dumped much rain, should have gauge information later today - a small trailing front will be moving through in the next few hours. Stay tuned!

My day is depending on your recon. No pressure!
:-)
Seriously though, I'm really expecting to be back either tomorrow or Sunday. The trails were great Wednesday.
Looking forward to your report and as always, thanks for being there!

I had less then a millimeter of rain during the last 24 hours.
Edit: the last squall line went thought the CSRA around 10am. Dropped 1 mm, last 24 hours 1.8mm or less then 1/10th of an inch.

I am planning to ride FATS on Saturday 4/13 as part of a group ride. We are trying to determine the route we will take. We had planned to ride Brown Wave as a part of our ride, but are hearing that Skinny is taped off currently. What is the best option for accessing Brown Wave if skinny is indeed closed?

When they "tape off" Skinny it is the lower portion that is taped off. Upper Skinny, the most direct route to Brown Wave remains open.

OK, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification Brian.

It started raining this morning just after 10am as the front began to push through. It has rained most of the day with small gaps and it looks like it will continue until nearly midnight. The trails at FATS will be far too wet to ride on Saturday and we'll have to get a read from the rain gauge to see how much rain we've had. We will report as soon as we have the information!

.68 inches of rain in the FATS gauge this morning after 12+ hours of rain yesterday. FATS too wet to ride today, please honor the 24 hour period to allow the trails to dry, Skinny and Great Wall might need longer.

Spot check on FATS trails should be good to go (there will be those muddy spots periodically on GW and Skinny)!

Please continue to keep the conditions posted. I just found out several of my biking buddies here in Wilmington, NC are planning to kidnap me for my 40th birthday on Saturday and bringing me to FATS for the first time. I am pumped and praying the weather holds out. Thanks for these updates!
