Get your light charged and get ready for some racing in the dark, because Drew and I are proud to announce the
2011 Moonlight Time Trials at the World Famous Augusta Canal Trail
2011 Moonlight Time Trials at the World Famous Augusta Canal Trail
Okay....so it's really not all that serious. But it will be fun! Almost same format as last year, except on Friday nights this time instead of Thursday.
WHAT: Moonlight Time Trials
WHEN: January 14 & 21
WHERE: Canal Trail - meet at the base of the stairs
WHAT TIME: Registration starts at 6:30pm, first racer off the line at 7:00pm
HOW MUCH: $2 per race - please bring exact change!
WHY: Fun in the dark
All proceeds will be added to the Canal Trail Signage Fund**
Pretty much the same plan as last year. Two races, one in each direction, no classes, no prizes, super cheap entry fee, the whole point is having a good time! And of course maybe earing some bragging rights over your buddies.
This will be a laid back race, catering to everyone and anyone that rides a knobby tired bike, not just racers. It's really just an excuse to ride and hang out.
We'll provide a bonfire and marshmallows, you provide your own beverages.
We will not be using Razor's Edge as part of the course, everyone will race the Sport/Beginner Canal Crown course.
And yes - you will have to climb the stairs at the end your lap on the CW day. ;D
In the event of rain the race will get pushed back a week - updates will be posted on the SORBA-CSRA forum, or you can call Drew at the shop. If the race is postponed it will be announced no later than 3:00pm on race day.
DO NOT PARK BY THE PUMP STATION!!!
The tow path gate near King/Sibley Mills downtown gets closed and locked at dark. So if you drive to the parking lot next the pumping station, your car WILL get locked in overnight. You need to park elsewhere, and ride to the trail.
I'll probably park at Andy Jordan's and ride from there, leaving the shop around 5:30. Anyone is welcome to join me. I could use a hand getting everything set up for the race (marking the course, building the fire, etc).

**About the signs...
The goal of the 2010 Canal Crown was to raise money to purchase signage for the canal trail. Shortly after the race series was over the Canal Authority began putting together a new master plan for the canal area, and part of that plan includes new, consistent signage. So Paul advised that we hold off on buying signs, so we did. Now it looks like it may be a long time before the Canal Authority does anything about new signs, so Paul told us to go ahead with our plan. That's why you haven't seen any signs out there yet, but they are coming! We didn't pocket the money I promise ;D
Any details I'm forgetting???
