A few weeks back my wife and I went on a weekend camping/mt bike trip to Ft. Yargo in Winder, GA. www.gastateparks.org/FortYargoThere are two loops around the lake. The Recreational Trail or inner loop which is about 7 miles of mostly double track. Great little trail down near the campground and dam. Areas near the boat ramp.disc golf and picnic areas can get a little confusing. In fact we managed to get on the single track be accident a few times. The Mountain bike trail is 12.5 miles and is directional which made it nice. The trail is mostly singletrack. Many sections had a "FATS" feel to them with smooth, twisty lines. One thing I really liked were the by-passes for certain stretches, like the "rock garden", "root garden" and "Horse Shoe Drop" I skipped out on the last one. Ft. Yargo is sure worth at least a day trip if not a weekend trip. We managed a Friday late day of the Rec. trail and a couples ride of the mt Bike Trail Saturday. I did also a solo ride of the mt bike trail Saturday and about 9 miles in Mother Nature decided I really needed a shower. I heard from another camper it rained over an inch in 40 minutes.

Yargo is fun, there's a few races there every year (XC, CX, 6/9hr mtb, dualathon, and even an xterra tri) and it makes for an AWESOME race course. Very fast, lots of fun. The horseshoe drop is scary looking at first, but it's a blast to ride. The key is staying off the brakes on the drop in. Pump the bottom, and you'll juuuuust make it out the other side without needing to pedal. It is steeeeep, and tall, pictures don't quite do it justice. It's fun though!

Love Ft. Yargo. Great camping, great trail. When you are done riding, head into Winder and stop at Bo's for some absolutely fantastic hot wings! Also, the horse park (Conyers) is only a half hour away.
BW, that first picture is beautiful. Very surrealistic. Almost like a mystical painting.

that is what happens when you have your phone in your jersey. moisture was bad on it.
Another thing I thought was nice was thru out the trail there were posted maps with "you are here" on them.

I spent the weekend at Ft. Yargo with my son and the trails are in great shape. I do not recomend riding the monster mile unless you go on the counter-clockwise days. We rode on Sunday which is a clockwise day. M, W, F and Sun clockwise, others counter. I did not atttempt the Horseshoe section either. Went into Winder to go to Bo's for dinner but they are closed for business, settled for Barboritios instead.

So I take it that it's worth the trip out there to ride for the weekend? I get a 25% vet discount on cottages so I'm always down for state park rides.

Kinda depends. Personally, I wouldn't drive over there and stay for a night for just a regular ride. It's too close to stay over night, and there's not enough riding to keep you busy all day, it's only a 12ish mile loop. It's a lot of fun, but just not worth the drive IMO when there are similar trails here in town. I don't typically do quick over night get aways like a lot of folks seem to enjoy though, so YMMV.
There are a handful of races there every year though, and it's great for that. And it's on the way to my parent's place, so sometimes I'll take the bike and stop on my way to get in a ride.

We were there for the Georgia State JROTC Raider team competition. My son competes on the Evans HS team. We just made a weekend out of it, just the guys. You can always rent a Yurt instead of a cottage. I'd say go for it. Nice lake too. Bring your fishing pole.

There is also an inner loop that is about 7 miles. Since it is directional being there two days lets you ride both directions. The yurt is the way to go if you can. When I was there I did the mt biking loop with the wife. And then re-rode it after lunch y myself.
