The trail was great last night and the weather looks good for the Baker's Dozen. Still not too late to sign up for this event! Come out tomorrow morning for registration at 7:30 (bring your friends)!

So...as this is my first MTB race and I'm probably going to get passed by a bunch of people, what's the etiquette? There aren't that many good spots to pass on the racecourse...

So...as this is my first MTB race and I'm probably going to get passed by a bunch of people, what's the etiquette? There aren't that many good spots to pass on the racecourse... Just be cool, basically. If someone comes flying up behind you (aka they're going a lot faster than you are) move over and give them room first chance you get. If they slowly catch up to you, let them tell you when they want by. You don't have to stop, just scoot to the right/left edge of the trail and let them by. It's their job to pass you, not your job to get out of the way. When you want to pass, ask the person to let you by whenever they get a chance if you're not in a big hurry (they're going about the same pace you want to go). If you see a good opportunity and are ready to go, let them know which side you're coming around on by saying "On the left" or "On the right". I've done a bunch of races the last few years had very very very few bad passing experiences, either trying to pass or getting passed. Most folks are good about it, especially at these long races. Saving 2seconds isn't a big deal in a 13hr race.

So you're saying I should wait for them to get next to me and push them down into the river/down the hill? Got it...

Just as a reminder if you have not raced the Baker's Dozen before - Lick Fork Recreation Area is pretty far from most services and food is not provided during the race. We do usually provide (and we will tomorrow) some light fuel as well as sports drink and water at the rider's tent.
Don't forget to bring your lunch and dinner - it's a long day!

I think tomorrow's gonna be a good day. We were riding some laps and hanging tape at Horn Creek today and I saw a sign.

I have three cowbells (two loud and obnoxious and one more subtle) and will have three special little bell ringers to help me tomorrow morning!

J - I combined all your pics into one post instead of each pic having it's own post. Makes for few pages in the thread and doesn't dominate the '10 most recent posts' link that way.
Nice pics, looks like a lot of fun was had!! Sorry I had to miss it this year, looking forward to all the post race recaps.

Great pics Jon (or is it John?)! Thanks for coming out yesterday...you should have raced! Hey, is that little Koz in the hammock? The race was so much fun and the trail was in perfect condition. We enjoyed seeing some new faces out there! Mtn bikers are a great group of people IMHO.

Hey, is that little Koz in the hammock? I thought that was little Koz too, but it wasn't. That could have easily been me, if the hammock was ever unoccupied Might just have to get our own for next year. We had a great day of racing, socializing, and meeting new folks. Thank you to all the SORBAcsra movers and shakers for their hard work in organizing, setting up, and tearing down the event yesterday. The towels came out great and the SORBAcsra tent and banners looked awesome. We're looking forward to next year.

The little guy in the hammock was part of Dan Patterson's cheering squad (and cheer they did!)

There were a lot of challenges in putting together this year's Baker's Dozen - a fall jam packed with too many weekends already spoken for, not being to find a professional timer until two months before the event and the list goes on and on. Ultimately we settled into about the only date we could (which we didn't realize at the time but ended up being the date of the GA/SC game!) but one way or the other we were rolling. We knew the field would be smaller this year but when you are building an event continuity is important! We appreciate all the racers who signed up to race the 2012 Baker's Dozen and special appreciate goes to some of our local members/riders who, despite not having been training for the event, signed up anyway to support SORBAcsra. The reality ~ - This Baker's Dozen field of 44 felt like the beginning Baker's Dozen field back in 2003 when the field was 33 - a lot of good friends by the end of the night!
- The weather was stellar! A beautiful day with a light breeze.
- The trail was fast and perfect! Check out some of those times when the results are posted!
- Only a few scrapes and bruises!
- Minimal number of mechanicals
- The volunteers (many of whom were also racing) were terrific (it can be such a long day)!
- The racers were appreciative (we never promise any food but usually provide some light fuel, sports drink and water) and many enjoyed the peanut butter, honey, banana wraps & other things at the rider's tent!
- Quite a few first time racers participated (I personally know of three who rode Horn Creek for the first time AND did their very first night ride on Thursday before the event)!
- Horn Creek Trail - one of our outlying, classic single-track trails got a lot of love between the trail prep, practice rounds and the race itself - so important to keeping these outlying trails alive!
- Jack was back! (our timing guy from last year)
Thanks to everyone - we'll be talking about the Baker's Dozen and its future at the upcoming monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct 9th Nacho Mamas on Broad Street at 7:30pm come by if you want to weigh in or if we do a Survey Monkey this year be sure and participate!

Great slideshow, Angela! Did you take those with your phone? If so, that's amazing. Many thanks to you and the core BD planners for putting this together. It is an awesome event that will hopefully grow.
