I'd like to ride the Thurmond Epic again before the really hot weather gets here. Looks like April 14th will be the day. Anyone else interested in riding all or part of the route? One caveat: everyone rides their own pace, and no one is expected to stop and wait for others. It's just too big of a ride to try and stay together, some folks will end up sitting around waiting a lot and others will end up riding over their head in an attempt to keep people from having to wait. That doesn't work well for anyone. So if you want to go, know the route, and be prepared. I've only ridden it once so far, after failing two previous attempts. TedS was the first one to ride the whole thing...as far as I know, we're the only two who've ridden it all. Start at West Dam early. We'll have a SAG drop at the other end of Bartram @ Washington Rd. The office in Mistletoe is the other SAG stop, but we wont drop anything there. They have a water fountain outside, and gatorade and candy inside you can buy. Any and everyone is free to join in for part or all of the ride.

AH! I didn't realize it was that weekend. Nevermind then. I'll be at BDR Sunday, maybe do the Thurmond Epic, maybe a shorter version. I haven't been to the BDR yet, every year I have something going on.

start below the dam and then it's out and back - as far as you want to make it but the last SAG stop is at Wildwood.

What time will the SAGs be up and running? One at Petersburg and one at Wildwood I'm assuming?

I am in for BDR. Would like to try to start early, ride the whole epic and then eat BBQ. Will be a stretch for me to make it, but I'll give it a go.

Is there a way to register for the BDR online, or is it only in the shop?

Sweet, thanks! I couldn't find anything on our site or Chain Reaction's, I'll get it linked on our homepage tonight.
So, who is interested in doing The Big Ride? We check in when it opens at 7am, and then head out asap. Finish up around 2:30-3 probably.
Anyone know when the SAGS will open and close? Just trying to think about if we need to arrange our own SAG drop or not.

SO the whole thing officially starts at 8:30. You'll need to provide your own sag until the way back when you should be able to use the SAGS provided for you if you aren't too late coming back through. No guarantee though, and hopefully you'll make it back in time for food too. Or you'll be like: All proceeds benefit the Southeastern Firefighters' Burn Foundation, so even if you don't get to partake in the culinary activities, your heart and soul should be full. Also, if anyone needs anything for their bike, it's highly advised that you do it now and not next week. Local bike shops are running wide open and last minute miracles may not happen as they normally would.

So, from the posts here, I gather there is no support for the 50 miler until the turn around point, there's no post of the route, and there's a chance that the food will be gone upon return. Correct? Just need to plan accordingly. I've yet to ride at this place so I have no idea what kind of goodies to bring for the ride.

Last year there were two SAGs - the fist at Lake Springs (about 5 miles in) and the second at Wildwood (about 18 miles). The 50-mile route includes the Keg Creek loop past Wildwood. The "Epic" route discussed above includes an additional route out to Mistletoe Park (plus Lake Springs loop) and back for a total of about 70 miles and is not officially part of the BDR. I rode the 50 last year and they were still serving lunch when we returned.

Just need to plan accordingly. I've yet to ride at this place so I have no idea what kind of goodies to bring for the ride. Tzeaser summed it up -- there is full support for the 50 miler. There are two SAGs that you will hit twice (out and back). Last year all I needed was one water bottle and a couple of PowerGels. Plenty of time for lunch too. Things get more complicated when you add in Mistletoe, which is what dagaddis is talking about, and is not supported. To make that happen you will have to leave early, thereby probably missing the first 2 SAG stops. If you are fast enough, those two SAGs may be there when you come back, but there is no guarantee since you won't be counted on the way out. It is possible that you could miss lunch too. Not worth the trouble for me, but I am not training for any big races right now. I am just out there for fun. Also, you mentioned the route -- start at the dam, ride old Bartram, new Bartram, Keg Creek, then back to new Bartram, old Bartram back to the dam. You will be starting in a big group as you cross the dam. If you are a faster rider, make sure and get in the front of that group before you hit the single track.

It sounds like no one is interested in doing the full ride. If not, I'll just do the 50 as well.

I think I'll just do the 50 for the BDR, How ever I would like to propose a big ride on Sunday the 29th, Start at Keg do the Christmas party ride, do all of Bartram to west dam, ride 8 miles of Pavement to Modoc do the connector "with special sauce" as DG has named it >> ending at wine creek/283. Having left a shuttle car at 283 get everyone back to there cars etc. 75 miles point to point, I would head out the day before and leave water and food at various points along the route.

I will be hard pressed to finish the 50 mile BDR at this point.
I have had a route like Ted S's in mind for years, but doubt I have the fitness to do it in a few weeks.
