We rode Modoc this morning and removed branches and several smaller trees. I don't recall any new big trees so everything that is down, should be down and are riders. Only a few moist spots. Looks like the old trail at the end, before you go uphill toward the power lines, is getting some use. We did see some evidence of 4 wheeler activity in the middle of Modoc . Fortunately, the damage appeared to be minimal.

Modoc was in good shape today. Only non-rider was a large pine top laying in a switchback near the 1.5 mile marker. It could be easily accessed from the A-entry, not far down the trial to the right.
I had fun hopping the logs, and also proud to say I cleared the big rock at the last creek crossing on the way out on the first try.... on a 26er, of all things.

That was Banks, the same night I went snorkeling. There will be a controlled burn at Modoc soon and I thought I'd wait until after the burn to cut the tree, since there are always some that fall.

...the same night I went snorkeling. Hahahahahaha, yeah I heard about that too. I've certainly considered the possibility of that happening when riding that section... Just remember: look to victory! ;D

More fun than a barrel full of monkeys! Thanks for leaving the logs, that's the most logs I've hopped on a ride Love to do a twilight/night ride shortly after the burn. Brian, I'm not sure when they're going to burn, but when they do, I plan on getting a night ride in myself. You're welcome to join me.

Just a heads up, there is a large tree blocking the fire road that brings you to "A". also it appeared to me that there was a 4 wheeler on the trail. This could of been NFS personal doing prep work for the burn. all of the bridges except the very last one looked to be freshly racked.

Per a sign put up at Turkey Ck this afternoon, Modoc is closed for the next few days pending a controlled burn. Plan accordingly.

Modoc needs work. Many trees down & weedy. Are any of the trees close to either end or the 2 mile access? In other words; are any, some, or most accessible by foot?

The worst one is very close to the Hwy 23 end. I think its right after the uphill with the water diverters. This is a large tree top that you have to climb through. Not far after that are two, one is a rider, the other is a large pine that probably should be cut. The rest are scattered throughout and I think could be cleared with a hand saw. Also, the tree that had the notch cut in it is now turned on its side, so it is a little harder to ride.

Modoc is a mess. The first 2.5 miles are OK. After that it turns to crap with all the blow-downs. I lost track trying to keep up with where all the down trees were.

Modoc is clean except for a few small trees that can be cut with a hand saw; got a few new riders. Long day.

Thanks for the work JT. Rode Modoc today and it was awesome. Plenty of logs to hop and streams to cross. Really like the alternate lines over the first log, ride the notch or the full log. We took care of all the small trees except for the one just past jaws.

We rode Modoc for the first time this Saturday (18 Aug). Trail was in decent shape, but summer rains are allowing the grasses to flourish and starting to overgrow the trail in a couple spots. We cleared some deadfall around mile 4, but there is a 6-8" tree/branch down just prior to mile marker 2.5 that was too big to move. Awesome Trail! just enough technical stuff to keep it interesting. Not as much flow as FATs, but ya gotta work sometimes. The creeks were dry, but creekbed switchbacks were challenging. Glad to see not all logs have been moved/cut down, makes you think and challenge yourself! We're from coastal GA (Richmond Hill, s of Savannah) so relish every opportunity we get to come explore the goods you all have at your doorstep. Well worth the drive every time. Rode to the end of singletrack, then took the L along double track to the gate at the end, then went L to the paved road. Decided we didn't want to ride road back, so tried a couple "diversions" marked by pink tape and white tree hashes as we jumped back onto the double track. Did not get us were we thought, but was still fun exploring. Next time may bring a gps to try and figure it all out. Cheers! Tony & Trudi 8-)
