Tread was perfect today. There were three, I believe, larger trees down. Will try to get back and get them off, but they are not deal-breakers. We did get several chest-height trees removed. Great ride. Homer got to do some leaf skiing. He tossed the rear wheel sideways more than once. Several Fat Tire Foxes got some laps on a great trail. MD

First time on HK and it was a blast. I did a little leaf skiing too. Almost skied my arse down the hill into the lake. What a beautiful trail and a great day. A great change of pace with a group of great gals. Looking forward to the ETT ride next month. Its definately worth the drive.

Had to go up to HKSP to get clear of the morning t-storm last Sunday. Rode some laps of Lakeview loop. 4 trees down - 3 riders, 1 needs to be cut out. Other than that all was good. Perfect trail for SS.

Camping here this weekend. Trail is in phenomenal shape. Bunch of out-of-towners are showing up to hone their skills for the upcoming Xterra races. Cool. Talked to one from Charlotte, a lady from Atlanta and one from Charleston.
We took out several trees this morning. Left a rider or two. Will get more laps in tomorrow. Would love to see more CSRA cyclists out here.

MD,
Post up current trail conditions in the am. May head that way tomorrow to get a ride in. It was in great shape last Sunday and dry as a bone.
Thanks,
MH

Ooliej and I had a great early ride with MD and YC yesterday at HKSP. Awesome trail with beautiful lake views! If you've never been there you've gotta try it.

hi to all. i am one of those "out-of-towners" coming up to hksp for the xterra. i'm coming all the way from puerto rico!
what are your suggestions on tires for the lakeview trail? i have schwalbe racing ralph rear and rocket ron front - are these going to be ok for racing here?
i have an ellsworth truth 26er and superfly 100 29er (both fs) - which of these two you think might be "faster" for this trail?
all comments and suggestions are more than welcomed, i will only have one day to pre-ride the trail before the race.
thanks - jorge ramirez.

Headed to HKSP Saturday. I wanted to get some riding in, and the SO wanted to also get in some trail running since we will be participating in the upcoming XTERRA race. Brought the chainsaw and cleared some new downed trees on Lakeview Loop. Rode Turkey Ridge afterwards. That little loop is probably my absolute favorite in the CSRA. It doesn't see a lot of tires, and it had a bit of debris on it (along with two trees), but it was so darn much fun. Always is. Jorge: Bring your 29er. It is perfect for this trail. There are a couple rock features on the Lakeview Loop that you won't even notice on that bike MD

Rode Lakeview Saturday, and one 12" tree needs cutting about a mile in CW. Otherwise trail looked great (seems to be getting rootier with the natural erosion, or is it just me getting a more tender arse?) There were two trees blocking Turkey Ridge right at the entrance. If a certified sawyer will keep us legal, I will be glad to help clear it.

Two none riders going cw. First one is just before you can see the Lake for the first time. Second one just before you reach the end of the first finger. Other than that the trail is in great shape.

Had a report of 14 trees down at Hickory Knob! OUCH! On our drive back from Texas yesterday I was talking about my desire to go camping at HKSP soon. If someone else doesn't get to them, we'll get there once I get my swamper back. She's out of commission for a while... MD

I rode out there today. I lost count of how many, but there are several down on the lake loop. Most of them in the first 2-3 miles going clockwise from the red barn. Also noticed a couple of widow makers as well that may need to be toppled and cleared as well.
There's a couple or three down on Turkey Ridge also, the largest being just as you drop in on the trail from the road. For the most part it's pretty clear.
That said, the lake loop was still a blast, only a couple of the trees were large enough to need walking around, most were just a matter of dismounting and hopping over.

was in town for a couple of days and joined JT today. Trails were very dry. Lake Loop had about 18 trees down - a few were riders and there were a couple of ride-arounds. Turkey Ridge had about 6 trees down and Beaver Run had about a dozen or so - most were clustered toward the lodge end. Lake Loop could use a DR trim but it's late in the season and stuff will soon start dying back. First time with Turkey and Beaver. Doing the three with the road connector comes to 15 miles - nice ride.

Well, we planned on doing the trees this morning, but our water heater pretty much died on us so that was priority We are camping there in two weekends and will take care of it then. Sorry that it has taken so long. MD

You need to get your priorities straight. There's nothing better than a cold shower after a long hot day on the saw.
