>>>>>>>>> Click Here For Results <<<<<<<<<Good job to all our racers yesterday! We had 36 people start the race, 26 finished. It was brutal out there. Total race distance was almost exactly 70 miles. The leaders were setting a blistering pace right from the start. The entire field set a hard pace at the beginning, I was really suprised at how quickly everyone got through SAG 1. But I guess the heat on the long pavel section between Wine and Lick Fork put the hurt on everyone, we started getting DNF call ins at SAG 2. No one had an easy day yesterday, you guys all looked like zombies when you got back to the finish area. Congrads to everyone that finished, and to teds for having an incredible ride and taking the overall win with a time of 5:09. Yesterday was a first for a lot of people, first mtn bike race, first endurance race, first time riding that far on their mountain bike, first time riding those trails, etc. Good job to everyone! A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers that made the race a reality. I'm not going to name names because I'll forget someone, but a lot of people spent a lot of time getting everything ready, even before race day. Getting the awards, hats, coolers, food, ice, marking the course, getting us a grill, etc. And on race day we had a great group of folks show up and run the SAGs. Without the help of volunteers these events don't happen. Special thanks to: - Amateur Radio Club of Augusta for all their help with communication. Those guys are critical to pulling off this event with the limited cell signal out on the course -Ranger Stone - park ranger at HBSP -Deputy Riley of the McCormick County Sheriff Department -Phil at Chain Reaction for letting us borrow all the coolers -Drew at Andy Jordan's for hooking us up with some Giant race tape Again, thanks and congrads to all the racers! So next year - fall or spring? ;D

I am in awe of anyone who started this race. I did 70 miles road three weeks ago , 28 miles sandy dirt roads last week and know that I could not do 70 miles Sat. I don't know who won or came in last but you were there and that is what counts. CONGRATS

How long was the ride on the 2010 SMC? Anyone have a computer and record it?
I am guessing 65-67 miles, or so.

One of the guys that tied for 2nd had a computer that read 70.1 miles. He said it was correctly calibrated, with the wheel roll out measurement. A few people's GPS's showed in the 66-68 mile range, so I'd say 70 is right.

i will never forget Ted at SAG 3 stop for MAYBE a few minutes, out of breathe, and then said "got to go, they are on me." and strolled off. The next two riders showed up a few minutes later. :whoa:

I had just over 70 miles also, including the parade out of the park. It felt like 100 though. That was the most big ring riding I've ever done.

Wanted to Thank the CSRA group for arranging, organizing and having the Sumter Metric Century. Nice to be at an event put on by true Mtn Biking enthusiasts with the proceeds going back into the trails. Having raced many events, now run by promoters out to make a living, and the event coming done to the money they make, versus true passion for the sport, I thought the CSRA event was a top event!
The supporting club volunteers (start/finish, all sags stops, out on course) were top notch. Even the competitors, had a more positive, helpful, not cut throat attitude. Heck I even let the first top four know they were heading the wrong way, after SAG #1! Good thing I had pre-rode part of course, Ha!
Course is challenging, the mix of road with single track, makes a unique, challenging, and fun event !
Thanks again and we will keep an eye out for next year’s version!

Julie & Mark Stewart Thanks for the kind words. The SORBA/CSRA chapter has tried to host many different types of events over the years, with the goal of keeping it fun. We have a core group of people that all have the same goals: Ride your bike and keep smiling. Keep your eyes open. A few new options are being explored for next year, all with the intention of getting people out on trails that they otherwise probably wouldn't be on. We definitely enjoy enticing riders from outside the area to come join us (plus my SO really enjoyed chatting with Julie). MD

Did anyone have a bigger day than Tom Zeaser?
He took an hour off his 2009, in the heat of 2010 and the event was a little longer too boot.
I took a little longer in 2010 than 2009.
I think every who did it both years took longer in 2010 than 2009, but Tom Z shaved an hour off his time.
Good job, man.

Did anyone have a bigger day than Tom Zeaser? You could see the pride in his face. I walked right up, stuck a hand out, and congratted him. Everyone that finished deserves congrats, but Tom's smile made me smile (and I wasn't doing too much smiling up to that point). MD

A lot of folks impressed me.
Tom Z. took a ton of time off last year. A TON!
Ted had a great ride to take the win.
JT stayed in the lead group through SAG 2.
This was Becca's first mtn bike race of any type, and she did it in 6hrs, including getting stuck by a train, and crashing and opening up her stiches. Gnarly.
Dan finished in sub-6hrs after taking a 20 or 30 min break to ice his twisted and swollen ankle.
Matt K. had an awesome ride as well.
A lot of folks had great rides.

Bill V was riding well and ahead of his usual pace, he only started to slow down and cramp once he took off his orange hunter's vest.

I almost bailed on the race when I heard it would be longer than last year - I'm glad I didn't. My personal high points: Spending about 5 minutes with the lead group (on Washington School Rd). Seeing the confusion among the "terriors of terror" as the group passed by. The top of Delaughter Road. Sag 2a (after running out of water on Delaughter). Catching up to Bill V at Sag 2b (that didn't last long though). Finishing the race, in the mix, on my "off the shelf", low-end, 10+ year-old Gary Fisher HT.
