We have been asked to provide the volunteers for the mountain biking portion of the memory ride for Johnathan Tisdale (mountain biker/road biker/SORBA member) who lost his battle with brain cancer on June 29th. With our support for this event, the monthly work party and Labor Day holiday, we will not hold a September Explore the Trail ride. For members who have already asked and want to participate here is the link to register for the Johnathan Tisdale memory ride. We will post details about the mountain bike ride portion as they become available. www.active.com/cycling/appling-ga/pedal-with-purpose-in-memory-of-johnathon-tisdale-2011

For this event I am planning on doing the Christmas Party ride out of wildwood, I E-mailed John Phelan he liked the idea, I will ride the route a week or so prior to the event and flag the turns and route and also paint the roads up in keg subdivision. 25ish miles, self supported, great ride. I can lead sweep or follow depending on how many want to join in and who all is coming along. This start locale offers some options, some others may want to do just Keg or head down Bartram.?.?.
Promises to be a great day on the bike, come on out and join the FUN!!!!

Ted, can you map a real short route that possibly JT's son Whitt can ride; not sure if he will be there but would be neat to have him on his small mtn bike and do a very short loop for his dad.

Someone else made this map and gave it to me, I'm not sure how to make maps of our routes, How ever I am sure we can find some one who can and plan a nice ride for Whitt.

We will have a tent at the start area to help people with information on the various mountain bike rides that will be available. So there we need someone (or two) at least 30 minutes before the event begins - all this concludes with the lunch at around noontime. We will have a leader and sweep for the short ride that will go from Wildwood to the pavilion and back, there will be a couple of people at a SAG stop at Petersburg that will be there from say 10 till noon (times could shift slightly). There will be some longer rides by experienced riders but those won't need additional support and they will know where the SAG stations are.....if you can help just email me at sorba.csra@gmail.com. Shouldn't need a lot of volunteers - probably 5 to 7 or 8 would be great! I have to give them a list of our volunteers in advance so I need to know who plans to lend a hand. Thank you!

Looks like it will be a great day for this ride, we still need a few volunteers to help with the mountain biking portion of this ride. Will not be a huge time commitment but I need to get this list to Phil this week so they can plan for the lunch so let me know if you plan to help! Just send me an email at sorba.csra@gmail.com Thank you! If you are planning to support the event by signing up to ride here is the link again to active.com.... www.active.com/cycling/appling-ga/pedal-with-purpose-in-memory-of-johnathon-tisdale-2011

Since I have had several people who have asked about this.......I have confirmed with the organizers that you can sign up the day of the event!
They have planned for some extra t-shirts and BBQ in case there were people who wanted to sign up at the last minute. Registration on Saturday morning will be from 7:30 until 9:30 (the road rides start earlier) - the official mountain bike rides begin at 9:30. I'd recommend if you want to ensure you will get a lunch and a t-shirt that you come early in the registration process.
There are a lot of riders coming in for this event from out of town and we are prepared to help handle about any length mountain bike ride riders want to ride. We have an easy 5 mile set up that will roll from Wildwood to the pavilion and back on the far western side of the Bartram trail but would love to see riders who want to do the full 18 (Wildwood to Petersburg and back) and of course there is the great Christmas loop that the hard core riders have set up that will be around 30. Riders heading off on towards the east on Bartram can put in just about any mileage they feel comfortable riding - stop by the SORBA mountain biking tent once you have registered - it should be manned by 8am!

Just a reminder, there is a $3 entrance/parking fee at Wildwood - they do not take anything but cash or check! If you are a registered volunteer your name should be with the guard at the gate!

This event turned out to be a real tribute to Johnathan Tisdale! I don't know the final count of participants but we had about 50 mountain bikers riding anywhere from 5 to about 30 miles. We took a group of young future mountain bikers out to the pavilion and back (this group included johnathan's son and nephew) a missed turn meant that these riders rode from between 5 and 7 miles at the more challenging west end of the Bartram. They had a blast and were real troupers.
Thanks for the great turn out and special thanks to the people who volunteered to help with the event.......very much appreciated .....Amy Tisdale stopped by to tell us how much she appreciated our participation.

It was a magnificent tribute to JT. The kids were a blast, especially the little guy who was on the smallest bike I've ever seen. He never got over two or three mph except in the dips, but he pedaled his little legs off to keep up. They were an enthusiastic bunch, so there is no doubt there were some future MTBers in the pack.

Mark - That little guy on the 12 inch wheels is Johnathan Tisdale's nephew - what an amazing little guy - never whined and you are right pedaled his little legs off........ended up doing about 5 miles! All those kids were just great and thank you so much for helping us get them down the trail and back safely and for helping us get back on course when we went astray!
