Wes Prince, a emergency med resident, and his then wife Amy were the chief trail guru's and designers. I will have to get with Brett Ardrey or Phil to get the exact year, Wes and Amy moved from here a year after. A bunch of us, some names I can remember and some I can't.....will get more info for you; tell you how it started, where, when, and why we went where we did. It took most of the winter to do 3/4 of trail, didn't finish the far side away from Pollards Corner til the next year. Will ask my buds.

Really? I know Wes. He lives in Lexington, KY now (my hometown). I've ridden with him a time or two when I've gone home for holidays.
I'll ask him about it.
Now that I think about it, I thought Keg was older than that. Part of Bartram Trail, perhaps.

Bartram was built in the 1970's - I thought Keg was part of that but that was just my assumption.

Ironi is right. Wes and Amy along with the freewheelers bike club built that trail in the early 90s.

it was about 93-94's that it was built.....I think....Augusta Freewheelers, Wes and Amy, and the guy named Chip??? that helped build the canal trail...Chip moved to New Mexico or Arizona....Obviously, we didn't have all the fancy equipment and toys Bill has now.

Chip Grant. He also built "slingshot" at old Tower with TJ. They used a 20" push lawnmower to build it. I kid you not. Funny thing is we thought a cat named Dana built slingshot and named it slingshot after Dana's bike. Then later we found out Chip and TJ built it. Dana (and Buddy) built most of old Tower, though.
I can't believe I never knew this about Keg Creek.
Best thing the Freewheelers ever did!
Thanks for the history lesson.

Chip Grant did allot with the Canal Trail if I remember....There were about 10 of us.......Then what's his name, the red headed hair dresser who had to leave town quick to Charleston (was chased out), built that crazy part of canal trail with ramps through the trees and stuff......

Chip Grant was a thieving POS just like Buxton. Glad they are both gone! Sooooo....Thanks to Dale Parrot for really handling Keg Creek. Ironi....why don't you participate more with the current bike club like you used to BITD? It seems the minute SORBA CSRA was created, you and 8 of the 10 people you mentioned above went MIA.

Ted, might as well call me what u inferred, POS. Why would I call you that? Did you steal thousands of dollars from people and bike shops like these two did, or do you think I'm calling them that because of trail construction? My comment regarding your involvement in the local mtb club was as a reflection of your involvement with the freewheelers back in the day and that you'd make a valuable asset to the club today. However, if you're going to jump to conclusions based on your assumptions, then maybe I'm wrong. Sorry for any confusion. And by the way, you need to re-read my comment above and reference who I was calling a POS. Chip and Buxton. I'm trying to give you a compliment based on your involvement in cycling in Augusta, however.... I think your statement in the PM you sent me was that I have no idea who you are. I've known who you are for almost 20 years now. Too bad you haven't gotten to know everyone else involved in the cycling community. We all really do need to come together to benefit everyone and since you have been involved in CSRA cycling for so long, I thought you'd be a valuable asset. SORBA CSRA is more than just B. Victor. It's a cooperation of many people on many levels and will always be that way. BV formed SORBA CSRA after he realized that the Augusta Freewheelers didn't want to be involved in mountain biking in the CSRA (or was it just because they didn't want to be involved with Bill?) and if I recall correctly, you were one of those people. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Sorry, thought you were referring to the 8 of 10 as inclusive of Buxton and Chip, that was why i took POS in direct correlation. I apologize for my misinterpretation. I agree with your assessment of one, but I did not know Chip very well.
Anyway, anyway to delete my prior posts, lol.
