They came from far and wide, pros wearing more armor than an Abrams tank and beginners in t-shirts and jeans. You judge how much fun downhill racers are having by the big grins and wide smiles and I saw an abundance of those. They have to be a tad insane, which is intended as a compliment as I would love to be young and carefree enough to launch my body down the trail along with them. And before I forget, I must mention that no animal was abused or mistreated during the taking of these photos, nor was a racer seriously injured. Enjoy ;D What goes up slowly will come down as fast as a bat out of you-know-where. An old timer patiently awaits his launch time. Forty pounds of guided (and sometimes unguided) missile. Yep, been there, done that lotsa times. All down hill from here. Roots? What roots? This is how it should be done. This is----------------- ---------how it should not be done Future SORBA member and his trail buddy. Looking cool, riding fast. Hello Mr. Tree (he missed by inches). Those who picked the right line and stayed off the brakes flowed through like maple syrup over hot pancakes. Those who did not, did not. Armor and full-coverage helmets are cool, even when it’s hot. Love me some rock gardens. Fred Flintstone brakes. Real girls don’t need no stinking armor!!! Less than three minutes from the start line.

Totally awesome shots. You gotta be a pro photographer...Aren't Ya? Didn't say where this was, I'd like to go and spectate. Thanks for the compliments. I just tried to put on my helmet and found it to be too small ;D That race is held each year at Paris Mountain State Park which is near Greenville, SC. The downhill course is on a section of Sulphur Springs trail which is the steepest and most techincal of the PM trail system. I ride it and the other trails there quite often--just not as fast as those guys. The race is usually held on a Sunday in October and while a date has yet to be set for 2011, my guess is Oct. 16. Later in the year you can get the date by doing a web search for "2011 Paris Mountain downhill race". It should also be later posted on the Upstate SORBA website which has information on Paris Mountain State Park and other area trail systems. www.upstatesorba.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=57Happy Trails EDIT: Shortly after posting the above I received word that the PM downhill race will not be held in 2011 On a more positive note, I was also told the Clemson, SC downhill race will repeat again sometime this year

I rode in that race on a borrowed bike in amateur (aka I-have-no-business-trying-this-but-i-came-to-get-sh*t-done). Thankfully you did not get a shot of me gobbling gravel.
