Knocked out the crud on section 1, cleared section 2, and then hit the first hunnert feet or so of section 3. What a frickin' mess. We have not cleared all of 3 and 4. Based on the comments above tho, it should be worth ridin'.
We'll try to finish up in the next week or so.
Needs wheels, and will need DRs before the BD.

ah section 3 - What started a few years ago as the "green needles section" then moved into "bark ride" and now is a hurdler's dream/nightmare.
Thanks for the work BD & BD. Sounds like you almost made it thru.

Parked in the campground area after paying our $3 (yep, gotta pay even if you are volunteering). Rode in on section five, cut three or four there. Section four also had three or four. Same with section 3. Lots were in your chest or face, or just messes. Then headed back to the car via gravel. Dropped off the B.O.B. and headed back out for a fun, un-laden lap. Started on section one. Halfway through section two, dayum! Big mess of trees. Looks like three fell down on top of each other. Oh well, I was nearly out of water and wanted to ride, so off we went. Those turned out to be the only ones down. They will come out soon. In the meantime, you have 5.95 miles of tree-less trail to ride. Still love this trail. Still appreciate full suspension on this trail. Section two, going CW, makes me wish for about 6-8" of FS. That's when I miss my old 575! MD

Thanks for doing that. We'd be in a world of hurt if you didn't cut as many trees as you do.
I find section 2 CCW to be an absolute grunt. I generally prefer HC CCW, and section 2 is a part of that reason. And I like DH flow in section 4 CW.
I rarely ride there unless it is something going on that includes it.

David K and I cut the trees in Section 2 last night. I need to eat my Wheaties to use the new saw! Riding with a bob for the first time was a trip. Then we rode a lap and everything is in good shape.

Glad it all went well for you two. Hope you enjoyed throwing chips 20 feet! A B.O.B. is a necessary evil. They don't call it a Beast of Burden for no reason! It's not really fun, but it makes the day go nicely. MD

Weekend ride - cleared what I could but not the following. Section 1 had 1 tree down just at the bottom of the stairs. Section 2 beginning is becoming overgrown, 2 trees down in middle, & one near end. Section 3 has 3 or so down near beginning. Section 4 had 1 in middle & one near end. Section 5 had 2 down.
Overall had fun on the trail

Rode yesterday morning, it was pretty rough... but still fun. Somewhere around 14 non-rider trees down on the 5.7 mile loop. It just needs a little chain saw work, and some tires. Something tells me the Bakers Dozen will take care of the need for tires

We are heading to Horne on Saturday to take care of the trees. There will be four of us working this Saturday, and a work party is being planned for the weekend of August 13 and 14. There are some sections that need mowed and lopped. Watch for the details on the website and forum.

Trail is clear of trees. What a beeyotch. Sections 2 and 3 just about cut my tail. Thankfully I had two great swampers: YC and BL. Thank you so much for the help. The trail work scheduled for next weekend is much needed on all sections. Numerous face-slappers and overgrown areas. Every section needs some sweat-equity.

MD, YC and BL - thanks so much for doing the trail recon and tree removal! We are all anxious to get out there and get that trail back to pristine shape. Here are the details for next Saturday's work party: Date: Sunday, August 14th Time: 8:00AM Where: Horn Creek Trail - Lick Fork Recreation Area main entrance- All sections need attention - there are 5 sections in 6 miles
- If we get the volunteers we can mobilize both DR mowers and the three gas powered hedge trimmers
- Minimally we need 10 people for this work party
- We currently have 5 people who have committed
- Contact us at sorba.csra@gmail.com if you can help
It takes a lot of effort to set up the work parties, get all the equipment out there, get the work done and get it all back into storage again. It is critical to get enough volunteer help so we don't have to try to repeat work when we are short volunteers. We need a spotter/lopper with every piece of equipment we mobilize (having extra loppers is ideal) - if you can walk you can be a spotter/lopper and help with this work party. If we have a good turnout of volunteers we can get in and hopefully get the work done and get out by noontime. Bring your bike and do a round after the workparty - start thinking about putting that team together for the Baker's Dozen!

We did not have enough volunteers for the work party on Saturday but were able to pick up a couple more if we switched the work party to Sunday so see the change above. We still need a few more volunteers to make this a successful work party!

Great work party today finishing up the Horn Creek Trail work! Between the work party last weekend by the chainsaw crew (Dawdy's and Lambert) and the work party today mowing and lopping all five sections of Horn Creek - this trail just needs some wheels to have it back in pristine condition for the Baker's Dozen endurance event in October!

Trail was in great shape last night except for 4 trees down right at the beginning of section 3 (cw) where the previous mess was. The trees are relatively small- half hour work at most. We hand-sawed one tree and cleared some other areas. It's only been 4 days!!! Otherwise, I had fun on John Fender's white lightning (29" HT, 21 lb).

That area is going to be a bugger until every one of those beetle-damaged trees hit the ground. Maybe two more years at the most. Since the ladies ride is there Sunday, and we know who leads the ride, I am sure that my 362 will have it cleaned up by then If only I was allowed to fell a dead tree.... MD

The weather was perfect for riding today and it is obvious the Horn Creek trail is getting some wheels! All good - a couple of minor trees down that were taken care of, if nothing changes we will have very little to do to prep the trail for the Baker's Dozen. There were quite a few riders out riding the trail - probably more activity (in terms of mountain bikers) that the park host has seen in quite a while!
