Am I correct in saying the only trail on the SMC route that needs work is Lick Fork?
Wine trimming got done?
Turkey trimming got done?
Just wondering and looking for an update.

I believe Wine and Turkey are "rideable" though it would be nice to do more trimming on both. We need to make a "chain-saw" run right before SMC. I was going to go in at Turkey's 5 mile point with a hedge trimmer this Sunday morning and work in that area. Modoc is in pretty good shape though I will weed-eat or trim the remainder of the trail I didn't get before the ETTR.

Jon, good idea on the chainsaw run "right before". I was thinking of going into Wine in the next few days, but if more trees come down between then and the event....

I am more concerned about the vegetation than a few trees riders will have to get off and step over.
Last race I did had plenty of trees that couldn't be ridden over. I thought it was refreshing and I was in a mountain bike race.
All that said, I am not going to stop two of the best volunteers we have from doing whatever they want to do.
When the time comes to mow Horn Creek, I will help.

What is a good day for Horn Creek cleanup?
Main thing is getting the mowers to the trail.
I'll work.

I ended up with some unexpected time this weekend, so I worked @ Horn a little. Got all the entrances off gravel roads cleared for about 20 yards, and about the first 150 yards of section 2.
How about the 11th for the DRs.

Any momentum for Sept 11 work at Horn Creek?
I'll work.
Need the mowers up there. What is the condition of the mowers? Both working?
I thought I saw a fancy looking mower on the back of Oddcouple's truck a few weeks ago. Is that a personal mower or something for SORBA CSRA to demo???

I can't make the 11th, but could make the 19th. The 19th is the week before the race though...

I'm committed to other projects the next two weekends, then SMC. From the looks of the new growth on Turkey maybe waiting until closer for mowing isn't a bad thing.

I am more concerned with Horn than TC. I thought TC was fine. It could use a mower going in from 617B (I think, it is the road just above the 3ish mile point on the trail, where the boardwalks are). This area has about a 100-200 yard long section that could use a mower. But it isn't too bad w/o it. Not sure the effort is worth hauling a mower up there to get this one section.

How many people do we need? I haven't seen it. Who IS willing and able to work. If not the 11th, the 12th?

I'll help - the 11th works best for me, but could help early on the 12th. The trail has 2 sections that must be cut due to blackberry overgrowth, section 2 & section 4. All other sections are rideable, through tall grass, weeds, small trees, and brush, but rideable. Under thick tree canopy the trail is in questionable shape, but wherever its open its overgrown.

Seenvic it is a personal mower. We bought it for our land on Woodlawn RD.If we need to use it on the 11th I would be glad to help if we are not having a Baby.

Section 2. From gravel to first wooden bridge? Is it ok once it gets back into the woods? Section 2 is about a mile from gravel to first bridge. Section 4. Same question. Gravel road to where it goes back into the woods? Well above the switchback? I think it gets thick again just below the switchback and before the bridge. Short, but thick, IIRC. I can't bring mowers. But I can run one.

What time do we all want to start? How about 9am? I will bring the loaded trailer and park at the intersection of 3/4. EdgeE: Bring your utility trailer if you can, grab a DR and head to section 2.
Section 2 needs to be mowed and "hedged" from end to end. That is two miles of mowing, each way. If ya'll would, BV and EdgeE can run the mower on that section. If we can get one or two more volunteers to walk it with hedger(s), then that secion will be good for a couple years. At the very least, start at the 1/2 intersection and go as far as the Boy Scout bridge.
I can do section 4 myself. Basically just the clearcut area (the top) needs to be mowed. It was nearly unrideable a month ago. The short area down by the bridge needs to be "hedged", so if we get enough volunteers, one could enter from the 4/5 road entrance and walk down to the bridge area.
Section 1 could use a DR, but we'll have to see hw much help we get with this work party.

I will be there at 9am on Saturday. I'd rather start earlier, but 9am will work.
Maybe I'll come get a hedger and do the small section in 4 just below the switchback before 9AM. I can carry a hedger, I think, on my roof rack. E can meet you, get the DR over to 2 and I can meet him there with a hedger.
Let's have a firm time to start by days end.

I'm good with a 9am start for the DRs and will bring my trailer. Would be happy to meet BV earlier and get started then meet MD @ 9:00.
I can handle the DR on section 2, at least one way. I think there are 3 bad spots in that section one near either end & one near the middle but, closer to the section 2/3 end, so I'd agree, all of section 2.
MD if I'm reading your post correctly, you are going to cut all of section 4. I say this because the worst spot is below the top clear cut. I'm the opinion that the whole trail could use the DR's while they are there, but I know the manpower/time limitations.
I was wondering if the whole trail was on course for the SMC, or only sections 2 & 3 (ride pavement to gravel, turn left onto section 2 and ride clockwise until end of section 3, turn left on gravel)?
