I'd be down with a little recon ride if you go early in the morn. If not, I'm going to ride/see Wine.

Mark Hanna and I are riding Wine Creek and (as much of) Turkey Creek (as we can stand) Saturday at 7AM. The idea is to suss out trees, mowing needs and any other things that will be helpful in getting it cleaned up.
Mark usually pushes the pace pretty good for my standards. Don't say I didn't warn ya. But come on.
I'd love some help clearing some webs.

Key Bridge at 7am, hopefully. Key Bridge for sure. How close to 7AM we get is the question.

I may join in, the days schedule is under review. I'll be there before 7 if I'm in. Let me know via call or text. Gonna be me, Mark Hanna and John Pace so far. Come on. We gonna be marking stuff with GPS's, so there will be some stopping that will slow down the pace. I think we gonna have two GPS units to make it more efficient Give me a heads up if you can, either way.

Turkey Creek is alot better shape than I thought it would be. It was pleasure to ride, really. Primitive, but good ole Turkey Creek...fun.
I think a hedger or two, or three(?), and the weedeater could start at Key Bridge and take care of the vegetation that needs to be cut from the start to the first gravel road. And from there to the next gravel road, it has short patches of stuff that needs to be cut. But long stretches where a DR would be a waste of time. They should have a car waiting there for them and go home. I bet it would take 2 hours with 4-5 people.
There are 4 trees down in the first 4.8 miles of Turkey Creek that need a chainsaw and should be removed. I have them marked a map and will post the map here once I get it made. Probably Monday.
We need to send a DR into the 5.2 or so mile road (617?). Send it left and mow all the way to where I turned around today. It has to cross the bridge past the fork in the creek. I don't recall it doing that in the past, but I didn't make it that bridge today before I turned back because of heavy veg. When it comes back to by the road, fill it up with gas, and send it the other direction. By memory, there is a really narrow benchcut that we don't want to take any DR across. It won't fit on the side hill trail, and screws up the lower side of the trail. This is where you want to turn it around.
We should send the other DR in from 617A, the end of the Turkey Creek Trail. It should mow to this same benchcut and turn around as well.
Would be good to have a hedger and a lopper with each DR. Should probably have a chainsaw with each one as well. A big storm hit that area last Sunday, the day after we worked on Wine Creek and it has 3-4 new trees down on it.
If we could get a 4-5 person crew to take the hedgers out and do the part from Key to the 617B, then we come back another day and get a large crew going running the DR's with a hedger wingman etc....
Lets go ahead and get that third hedger and have it ready to go.
Both DR's still running OK after Wine Creek and LCHT tours of duty?
I'll work on a date.
It was great out there today. Let's make it better and have another trail to ride.

Do I read you correctly - turned around @ 4.8 miles? I thought you would have made it a little farther. Your assessment and plan of attack sounds good, I'm in.
I remember a big tree down after the dips. A chainsaw following right behind the DR would be nice. The effort to go over or around trees could be used to help remove the carcass, and keep the DR moving w/o tree hoping, or worse, a drive-by.

We turned around to preserve the memories of a great ride. Had we gone further, I wouldn't have remember how good it was up to the 4.8 mile mark. I would only remember how bad it was after that. I spoke to Richard A today. He rode ALL of TC last Sunday (8 days ago). He said it was brutal in the back couple of miles. He is willing to go out there this Sunday. He has one buddy to bring with him and I am trying to get him some equipment. I am hoping to get a few more with him and get a good start on TC with a small crew of 5 or fewer. Then come back with a large crew and knock it out.

Above is the work map of TC. If it has a "T" in it, it is a tree that needs to be cut. Mow or mw, or hedg means it needs to be mowed or hedged. Where it say Mow, turned around.....everything beyond this point to the end of the trail needs to be mowed. Except the one narrow bench cut that cant' support the DR. Got some folks going out early this Sunday. Not sure how many, or what time yet, but early. You interested in working Sunday?

I'm in for Sunday morning.
Gotta get this trail open, the SMC isn't too far away. I'm looking forward to putting together some Turkey/Wine/Modoc rides.

Thanks Dustin.
I just want to ride somewhere that isn't FATS.
After 5 years, I have had enough of almost every ride being at FATS.
Took a few trips to the mtns to realize what FATS does to your skills. And if you have no skills, and start riding at FATS, you will never gain any skill except the ability to ride 14+ mph for a long time. You can learn that on a road bike.
And Bartram isn't any better. Gotta ride Keg, Turkey, Wine, HKSP, LCHT, Horn to keep the skills alive. And Mistletoe. And another trail that will remain nameless.

Looking at Sunday at 7AM.
Meeting location TBD. Depends on how many people.
Right now we have 4-5 people. Wala a maybe. He'd make 5-6.
Turkey Creek will be the focus.
If we have the third hedger by then, I wouldn't mind sending someone into Wine Creek with it. The first two miles need it badly.
Post up here if you can make it Sunday AM.
I will not be there, but others will be.
