Absolutely awesome.
Rich Edwards told me it was the most powerful thing he saw/heard at the Summit.
Basically, Phil told the story of his business before and after FATS was built. He gave sales/services figures and told real life stories of a rider who had a $300 bike and now has a family that has purchased 10 bikes from Phil.
FATS opened on March 25, 2006. Phil's sales in 2006 were up 12% over 2005. Sales up 20% in 2007 over 2006. Sales up another 20% in 2008 over 2007. Even 2009 had a 4% higher than in 2008....even though we were in the Great Recession.
Quality Bike Product's advocacy guy, Gary S, has contacted Phil about polishing his presentation and bringing to other bike trail related conferences. Gary's line is trails = sales.
Phil had some great pictures of families out riding. Large groups of friends, obviously several families with people of all ages out on the trails. 60 bikes is what Phil said he has sold via the pyramid of contacts thru the one guy who had the $300 bike to start with.
Thanks Phil. That was awesome.

I overheard a rider ask if this was Cannondale country. Another local rider mentioned Chain Reaction.

It's the White VW syndrome. Certain brands just stand out more to certain people sometimes. It's no more C'dale country than it is other brands. Common misconception amongst the masses. I was in the parking lot once on my Blur and overheard an out-of-towner tell his newbie buddies that Santa Cruz was a regional thing and there were too many around here. At the time there were only 4. Mine, Jimmy B., and two of Susans. Just sayin. However, you can't deny Phil's involvement in mountain biking even before it got so popular with the construction of FATS. He didn't wait until mountain biking was popular to get involved. Therefore, he is the most qualified in our area to give this type of info.

I think there were 4 or 5 of us at one time in the parking lot with our Bike Patrol jerseys and our C-dale Rush's. Would have been a good picture for Phil.

I was in the FATS Case Study session and it was fantastic. It was VERY interesting to hear those guys tell their stories. Phil's story def needs to be told and retold!
