I plan to ride Saturday, arround 9:15. I think I will start with Deep Step as I haven't rode that trail. I may be able to come out Sunday too, I will just have to see how the family responds.

Bring your A game, that loop is tough, fast, and hilly! Dont ride it CW, ride it CCW. There are some great long runs on the backside of just huge rollercoaster whoopdy doos. be careful

Sorry, I didn't see this in time. I did the lazy trip this weekend to ride ATVs in TN.
Neal, I still want to go ride FATS. I will be at Bartram this weekend though. Camping at Petersburg Friday - Sunday.

We will be there starting Friday afternoon. We will probably ride Sunday morning for a couple of hours before we pack up. My wife and daughter will ride too. They are getting better each time they ride just like I am. I'm not sure on the time, but post here when you decide and I can check Sunday morning from my phone. We could meet up at the Petersburg parking lot and maybe ride part of the new trail.
We are not ready to do the entire new length yet. That would be 18 miles. We could do 5 out and 5 back though I would think.

Matt; from Petersburg you can ride the old section to West Dam and back for an easy 13 mile roundtrip. There is one climb coming out of West Dam that might strain the beginners a little, but everything else is relatively flat with a few rolls. Easiest 13 miles you can ride in the woods around here.

We have ridden West Dam to the Lake Springs area and those red/white loops and back to west dam. My wife wasnt so sure about leaving West Dam that first time with all those rocks. She had never been on the trails and thought all of it might be like that. She was all about the smooth tread when we got to those spots. I think she will really like the section from lake Springs to Petersburg.
Then I rode the section from lake springs to petersburg a couple of weekends ago. I did 10.2 miles that morning and felt pretty good even though I had done 11 the night before on pavement.
Hope to improve my mileage each time.

ATTENTION NEWBIES AND OLD TIMERS
Neal (the nice fellow who started this thread) and I are planning a ride at FATS over the weekend of June 5-6. Not yet sure what his exact schedule is but I will be driving down and pitching my tent at Petersburg Campground early enough on Friday to ride the Petersburg-Dam there-and-back on Bartram. If anyone is interested in doing that let me know.
Bright and early on Sat morning I will head to FATS and will probably stay over and ride on Sunday as well.
As a ride schedule goes, I am open to suggestions but since I don't get to FATS very often I will be shooting for about two hours in the morning, then a few hours rest for lunch followed by two hours in the afternoon.
I first rode at FATS a few weeks back and since my time there was quite limited, I managed to only ride Brown Wave and Skinny. On this visit I will have two days so I want to ride all six trails including Tower and Big Rock.
So install new batteries in the hearing aid and pacemaker, cast that walker aside and let's show them young whippersnappers how much fun a bunch of "mature" guys (and gals?) can have.

I will try to be ready for a FATS ride by then. I want to go when there is a group since I don't know my way around.

Guys, keep in mind there is an Explore The Trails Ride at Lick Fork (Horne Creek) on June 5th. www.sorbacsra.org/That is a super opportunity to learn a new trail with experienced riders. It is a "no drop", basically meaning someone will be sure you are not left behind or get lost. The fast folks go out first and us slow pokes bring up the rear. Try to modify your plans to include that. I will volunteer in advance to ride sweep since I know the route and typically do ride a slower pace.

Thanks for the invite.
A few questions. How far is Fork Lake Recreation Area from Petersburg Campground? Is that a state park? How many miles will you be riding?

Neal- each trail has its own discussion section and you can see all the comments there - Keg is in good shape, be prepared for lots of roots. I ride this trail often.
