Anyone up for more work at FATS this weekend?
Which day/time works best for you.
JC, Ted - what you got going this weekend?
We could go back to BR, clean drains on the east side of Philpot, armor more on the west side.
Upper Skinny, near the spot, has some bricks on location and needs them put in.
Tower needs some drains cleaned and has a few spots that need armor. The worst spot on Tower may not have any rock nearby.
Who has info on what is "shovel ready"?
It's gonna be too wet to ride out there, working on the trails is a hell of a workout and is very rewarding. Come on out and help....you will have a good time.

I can do Saturday AM from 8-8:30'ish to noonish. Will have my 11 year old daughter with me for extra hands (will be generous with the bribes to cut down on the whining). We are both strong as oxen and almost as smart, and up for doing whatever you want us to do.

I was planning to work on cleaning drains on the east side of BR unless someone needs help elsewhere. Will start early Saturday if it's not already raining. If it's raining, will start early Sunday. BV-do you have any plans/ideas for the flat, muddy area near the bridge on BR? I think there are only a few spare brick still left in that area. Also, the worst spot on Tower, I think, is where 3 or 4 drainages come together- right? Do you know if there are any rocks nearby?

JT - The cedar bridge or the treated timber bridge on BR? Haven't looked hard at either one yet, but did cross the treated wood bridge and didn't think that area was better/worse than what all else I'd seen. Perhaps it is the cedar bridge you are talking about.
Tower - don't really know if rock in there or not. The spot where 3 drains come together isn't bad in terms of mud. But one day the trail will get washout out there and no longer be there. We will need a big culvert when the time come.
There are a few rocks, here and there on Tower. But I don't have it in my mind if they are where we need them to be .

She and Rachel can keep each other company. This is only if it is not raining.

For those organizing work parties, please go here: www.sorba.org/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=36&&Itemid=51 to download and print out the Volunteer Hours Form. Take it with you and have everybody fill it out and sign it to record the number of volunteer hours we are providing. Just bring the form with you to the next monthly meeting and give it to Paul. That way SORBA will know how many volunteer hours we spend working on the trails once the forms are turned in. Thanks & Be safe!

Sounds like Jon Taylor is going out Saturday AM. Prolly with Money and Dr Scott.
After giving it some thought, I need to be more a late AM or early afternoon worker bee. It just works better for my kids for me to be around in the morning, make breakfast and hang out with them. Plus I enjoy the time with them. Usually I can get 1 or all 3 to come over with me to work...and that makes things interesting for sure.
So, for now I am looking at gathering steam for Saturday AM with JT and Sunday late AM early PM with me and BReynolds. Say a 11AM start on Sunday. Work til 2 or 3.

I am going to try to work on Friday on the Skinny at the 4th power line crossing. We placed bricks on both sides of the power line about a year ago at this location. Paul F.

JW- 8am, at the BR/T parking lot. I have my own Pulaski and McCleod; bring a flat-nose shovel if possible. If someone needs me to bring tools, let me know and I will pick up Friday night.

I'm gonna do Sunday and try to get out with some other humans for a change. Looks like we have some competition in the workparty category for Sunday. It's nice to know the Canal trail will be in good condition for the Summit. ....That's why there's a work party planned. Seeing as how it's the only trail within riding distance of the Marriot, it outta be in good shape. It should be anyways, Summit or not. It gets a lot of use.

The Canal is the second most important trail for the Summit. The Greenway would be next. You can ride from the Summit to these trails. This is not difficult to understand, especially once the Summit starts and one sees how busy the schedule is....some folks won't have time to get to FATS but will still be able to ride.
As far as trails go, FATS is the reason the Summit is coming here. But we'd be short sited to not have all the trails in as good as shape as we can. The quality people running our SORBA CSRA is another huge reason IMBA selected Augusta for the Summit. We all know that SORBA CSRA is like most groups, alot of work done by few and alot of riding done by many. We could use some help in the short run from now to the Summit from the riders who don't usually work. Looks like there will be plenty of opportunties.
And another thing. Folks can volunteer when and where they want. It is poor form, IMHO, to tell folks they aren't volunteering "correctly" or at the right location. They have free will to no longer volunteer....
I'd like to help at the Canal, but have committed to FATS that day with Breynolds. Hope some others join us.

Valid point from both of you. However, my point is that it's taking bodies away from one work party to do another lessens the effect of one over the other. Power in numbers. I believe FATS was scheduled as of Tuesday. Canal work party was brought up yesterday. With the amount of work needed on all trails, I'd think each work party should be as effective as possible in order to get things done completely the first time and not have to go back out to "finish up". I'm not trying to discourage people from working when and where, just making note of the lack of coordination with the two parties scheduled for Sunday. Everybody has opinions....
