Hello All,
I am a newer guy to Aiken and wanted to see about getting people together for afterwork rides. I have been over to where this trail is, and the LBS gave directions, but I still haven't found anyone that rides here!!
I was thinking a weekly after-work ride would be sick. let me know what you all think.

My office is in Aiken, and I've been threatening to ride Boyd Pond (formerly ORA) for years.
Sad to say I've never done it.
Y'all get a ride going, and I'll threaten to show up. I got get over there soon and ride, for real.

We have a small group that have not riden since November going Thursday right after work. Leave work at 4:30 most likely be on the trail around 5:00. Not heavy hitters..........

There is nothing in the CSRA that gears are a must.

There is nothing in the CSRA that gears are a must. +1 I haven't had too much trouble anywhere with 32x18 on the 29er (about the same as a 2:1 ratio on a 26")

This trail will really work you on a SS; lots of short, steep pitches. I don't change gears too much, just keep it in granny gear, coast the downhills (there's always a turn at the bottom anyways), and take it easy on the very few flat places. Do you have a light for night riding?

I am going to try and get a 2:1 on my 96er otherwise I will be bringing the full squishy geared.

the ORA is like a tighter twistier Modoc. The trail is very confusing because people cut through the switchbacks and if you follow their path you can actually end up going in circles. There are two routes to go, following the pink ribbon will serve you well. I'm not very mobile right now but I do live in aiken and have ridden the trail about 20times. If you want to meet up we can work something out. send me an email as I don't check these forums often because my car has been on blocks for 7 months and my mountain rigs are hanging up feeling neglected.

Great ride tonight! We had 9 people in the group. We rode CCW first, then 4 of us rode it CW.
That's a great trail. I'm sad it's taken me almost 3yrs to ride it. People say it's tight and twisty....they aint lying. It makes the canal look like a drag strip. Lots of short steep climbs. The whole trail is covered in pine needles, every climb was a fight between traction and keeping the front wheel down.
We didn't have too much trouble staying on the trail. There are shortcuts here and there, but it's obvious which one is the main trail, it's much more ridden in than the others. Only time we lost it was when we accidently rode thru some super tight switchbacks. We'd stop, say "where did the trail go!?" then we'd turn around and find it behind us.
The trail has pretty good flow...it's a slower flow than some of the other trails, but it's there, and you can get in a nice rhythm. I got 5.3 miles per lap.
Go ride this trail. It'll work you. You'll have fun.
