Lake Springs is a lollipop shaped trail that is part of the Bartram Trail System on COE land at Lake Thurmond. Access is usually from the Bartram parking area at Lake Springs. A 3 mile loop heads east from the gate. Going left on the white blazed trail is the west leg of the loop; going straight following white/yellow blazes goes to the east leg. Less than 1/4 mile down the east side is the turnoff to the right onto the yellow balzed Bartram. A mile down the west leg is a spur crossing a bridge leading about 100 yards to the Lake Springs Fishing Dock parking area. A mostly paved bike path leads from here for 1 1/2 miles to an Observation Tower. Refer to the map accessed from the SORBA-CSRA homepage. Riding the loop with round trip to the Observation Tower is 6 miles and is perfect for beginners and this time of year you have the place to yourself.

I rode the Lake Springs loop while out at the Bartram Lake Trail today. What a nice little addition to the trails out there. The views of the lake are fantastic! If you haven't ridden it yet, you owe it to yourself to check it out. The trail was in perfect condition and the fall colors are beautiful. Just follow the white diamonds and enjoy! When you see this sign, take a right! You'll be glad you did! The fall colors are fantastic! Check out the bridge that curves around the tree! Another nice bridge. About half way around, the trail joins up with Possum Trot. (White diamond with red rectangle) Remember to wear hunter orange if you go! Be safe!

Ahhhh...that explains why the signs were laying down. I thought maybe it still existed since the blaze markings changed.
I saw a couple of other signs laying down that had names with Rabbit (Rabbit Run?) and Deer (Deer Crossing?) on them.
Thanks Dale.

Hopefully the colors will still be there for next weekend.
I may have already said this, but I am a huge fan of the new reroute. I have always liked the Lake Springs (outer loop) and it will definitely see more traffic with the changes.

With the way they have laid out the Lake Springs Trail, I consider it as just part of the main trail. To me the trail is starting at Petersburg, riding to the paved road at Lake Springs, going left on Lake Springs Trail (just before the gate), riding Lake Springs, then turning left on the West Dam section. Turn around at the West Dam parking lot and do the whole thing in reverse. That is the Bartram Trail!!!!
If you skip the Lake Springs Section, you just cut off a portion of the trail! :=)

Riding the loop both ways it was between 18-19 miles without the extention from the dam to Petersburg and back.
I have always loved the loop(s) and with the re-route i just feel more people will ride it.

The loop was in AWESOME shape for bikefest! The changes to the loop are very cool, great addition to the Bartram system.

Rode a few laps on the loop last night. Looks like it is getting traffic on it, unlike before the re-route. Still not sure which way I like to ride it more. Both ways have good flow and it rides completly different.
edit: there is a dead tree down between the bridges. To heavy to move by myself.
