I think you'll like this trail Jerry. You can ride it from end to end and back for about a 14 mile ride. I like to start at Petersburg Campground trailhead and ride to West Dam and back. It's no where near as much climbing as FATS so you can do the 14 miles pretty easily. It's fast and fun with plenty of lakeside scenery.
I haven't ridden the middle loops yet and last I heard, one of them was taped off while the COE did some work. But I am very interested in checking them out soon.
You can also ride the Petersburg extension which is about 2 1/2 miles one way in across the road from the Petersburg Campground trailhead parking lot. That section is only a year old and has a different feel than the rest of the Lake Trail.
Be sure to wear orange from now through January if you go out there as hunting season is on. They also hunt on Sundays in Georgia on WMA land so make sure you wear orange on that day too.
Be safe!

I prefer Peterburg if I ride the original 7 miles, If I do the extention I like to start from the dam (that adds another 5 miles round trip)
The loops are fun. Part of the "blue loop" was taped off. I do not know if it was re-opened.

The West and East sides of the red route form a loop off the yellow blazed Bartram. All interior cut-throughs have been eliminated. Access is a bit different now and involves a bit of brand new rake-n-ride put in by COE. Standing at Petersburg facing the gate, you can turn left and that will take you to the west leg of Lake Springs Trail. Going straight through the gate on Bartram and then continuing straight where the yellow blazed Bartram turns off to the right will put you on the east leg of LS Trail. This loop is definitely worth riding and will be used to access the Bartram at Bike Fest next month.

When I ride this trail I like to ride across the dam and then drop down below it on the Georgia or South Carolina side. It adds a little up hill, extends the ride to right at 20 miles and it's a great view when you ride across.

We were crossing the damn to get to the trailhead, and you and a buddy were on the sidewalk, heads down, pedaling like crazy. I was just happy because it meant someone else took out the spiders. Guess you guys didn't ride the loops though. I got covered there! MD

it's prolly against the rules but i like riding up and down the stone dranage ditch. I'll take your note as a reminder, i'm one of those who ignores the Lake Springs loops. I like sharing all the web fun, like ducking real low and letting the rider behind have a few.
