Take a look at the upcoming events planned for June!
June 6, 2009 ~ Explore the Trail Series Ride at Baker's Creek State Park. This will be a National Trails Day picnic & ride. Meet at Bakers Creek State Park (West of McCormick SC on SC378) at 10:00am. We will ride and then cook something for lunch. This ride is for members and non-members and is free for all. There is a park entry fee required for Bakers Creek State Park.
June 27, 2009 ~ NMBP Bike Patrol training class. This date has been changed to July 11, 2009 at COE request. Will post new date when provided.
The class will be held at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center on the South Carolina side of Clarks Hill Dam. It will begin at 9:00 AM and last for about three hours.
To become a member of the NMBP, you must complete the NMBP Bike Patrol training class, take the online Bike Patrol Exam, and be certified in Adult CPR/First Aid.
Being a member of the Bike Patrol is a rewarding experience and gives you an opportunity to give something back to this sport. The Bike Patrol is made up of volunteers whose only purpose is to Assist, Educate, and Inform those who share our wonderful trail systems. We provide first aid, assistance with trailside bike repairs, guidance to those who need directons, information regarding trail conditions, and education to those who'd like to become better and safer riders. Visit www.imba.com/nmbp/index.html for more information.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Bike Patrol, please send me an email (j.liebe3@comcast.net) with your contact information so you can be added to the class roster.
Check the NMBP Bike Patrol message board for updated information. Hope to see you there!
June 28, 2009 ~ Ladies Beginner Skills Clinic. The clinic will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Lick Fork Recreation Area. We will work on balance, braking, cornering, and going over small obstacles. The clinic will be limited to 20 participants, so if you want to get on the list, email barbara.drawdy@comcast.net.
From interstate 20, just across the border into SC, take exit 1. This is Martintown road/SC230. Go north about 17 miles and you will see a sign for Lick Fork Recreation Area. Turn right, go about 2 miles, and you turn into the recreation area (if the pavement turns to gravel and you see a sign for "bike crossing," you went too far and missed the turn into Lick Fork).
Go to the pay kiosk, and it will cost you $3 for parking. After the kiosk, turn left onto the gravel road and go through the campground until you get to the cul de sac at the boat ramp. That is where we will be setting up for the skills clinic. We will spend a couple hours going over some skills, and then ride the trail. It is a 6 mile loop.
