Just a heads up to anyone riding Modoc. The 4 Mile Bridge is not, in my opinion, safe to cross. I would recomend to go down through the creek. I heard many on the SMC almost slipping of the twisted bridge.
If anyone is out there and could tape it off please do.

I fell off that bridge with a jump at the last minute into the rocky creek below. Lucky I didn't hurt an ankle. This bridge needs to be fixed, for sure.
But if you come to it and it is dry, it is ok to cross. It was bad Saturday because it was wet and slick. If dry, it is sketchy, but you can ride right across it. If it is slick, don't even try to walk across it....go down thru the creek.

JT and I have talked about going out soon to fix it - I have some 4x4 timber pieces that may block up the low side.

I am leaning more along the lines of some photographs of the existing bridge, then coming up with a plan and touching bases with the USFS, seeing what they can provide us (new stringers to the location, new decking), then rebuilding it right one time for the next 20 to 40 years.
There's already a roll of hardware cloth on the trail, somewhere there on Modoc. Just need some material on site. Get it done in a day, eh! I'm game.

Photos? Here's how it looked the last time I saw it back in February, just prior to touch down.....

From Wooglin's photo (after rotating 180 deg.), it looks like maybe the stringers are still solid and just need to be repositioned? If that is the case, we could re-deck after moving the stringers, and even build ramps if needed... Regardless of the strategy, I will help out...

I am available this Sunday. We could do the quick fix as suggested by dparrot (block up the low side) to make it usable. Add some fabric. Roll a few logs into place as a ramp.
How much leverage does it take to jack up the low side? Would we need a stout piece of square steel tubing?
Is the low end resting on firm ground? Is there firm ground on which to place the 4 x 4's?
If not, can the bridge be dragged closer to this side? If so, we will need rope & pulleys.

I've worked on that bridge before. Some non-riding friends with rigging know how pulled the whole thing out of the creek and reset it. IIRC, there isn't much spare bridge at either bank.
