Just like Jmyers I am also a local mountain biker who has frequented Boyd's Pond. I can say I have always had a love hate relationship with this trail. Boyd's Pond will definitely get you into shape and make you a better rider the more you ride it. I have noticed the last few times I have been out there, which is not quiet as much since I moved to North Augusta, the trail is getting some serious erosion problems. I have also been on some of the new trails that have been added and am like Jmyers when he says I just can't get into them. There is also a few new additions I do like as well though. I appreciate all the work that has been put into Boyd's and think it is great that it is getting the attention it finally deserves. I do see the need in some trail improvements, especially for the erosion problems. I also feel there is some parts of Boyd's that should never be messed with. I can still remember the first time I ever made it up the wood platform and it puts a smile on my face even now. I do think part of the Boyd's pond draw for some of the more seasoned riders is also what puts off some of the beginner to novice riders from coming to Boyd's. I would hope a compromise could be made so that Boyd's could be a good place for all riders to come and enjoy no matter what their skill level. Also if there is anyway possible for me to help with anything at Boyd's as long as I am able I will help. Horses were on the Main Trail sometime recently. Either today or yesterday based on the fresh piles I saw. That is the last thing Boyd Pond needs is horse traffic. Clown Corner is the signature section at Boyd and while I am not a fan of running trials along the bottoms of drains, it works at Boyd and Clown Corner (CC) is the best example of it I've ever seen in my life. The issue is the entrance to CC is not on park property. I'd say CC is actually the best trail work at Boyd Pond. High marks, especially for the crib wall and getting the trail out of the bottom of the drain. The wooden exit is cool, but think it could use hardware cloth on it. I'd like to keep all of CC until we are asked to get off the private property. I see a line that would get us exactly to the CC entrance by going just slightly off park property, but didn't flag it. I flagged another half a mile today. What I flagged today continued the Main Trail reroute and tied it into CC, removed all the out of bounds sections and used several sections of the existing Hero and Main Trail that will just need to be debermed. I do see clay 2-6 feet under the sand. You can see it in the deep erosion ruts in Kabooki and in the Clown Corner section where some bench cut work has been done. You can see the soil profile almost perfectly there, where the sand stops and the clay starts. We have to cut some bench on some steep sideslope in Boyd and very well could end up hitting that clay. I also see the Nature Trail is down to clay in alot of areas. Hero Trail sits on a hillside and spends it's time going up and down the fall line of that hill. I cross it alot. I get on a time or two where it doesn't go straight up the hill. Hero Trail doesn't surf any drains that I saw while flagging near it. But Four Logs Trail does surf drains. I hope to be able to flag into these drains and leave the drain surfing as an option for riders who like that. I never look to put trail running the lengths of drains so that may work great when I get over by that section. I'd like to start to build the Kabooki reroute as soon as anyone wants to work. No matter this has to be done and the route I have flagged is over the top. I was out there yesterday and there was fresh horse piles then, around 4:30.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Went to Boyd's Pond this morning for a quick ride and found part of the trail had been bulldozed. It's the first part of the trail where it is mostly flat and you kind of double back on yourself a couple of times. The part where you drop down the little small whoop then you have to make an immediate left is completely gone. There is also a section just before that where they pushed a bunch of trees down on the trail as well. Really hate this has happened I use Boyd's a lot. I ran into the land owners of the property that runs beside the trail and they said the company that is clearing the land for them was suppose to stay 20 feet away from the trail but they messed up in that spot. Guess some of us need to get together and see what we can do to fix the part of the missing trail. Gonna be real hot in the section now because there is no trees. Let me know if I can help and when. I have been thinking about going out there with some loppers and other tools to clear out some of the underbrush anyway.

Just to let everyone know there is a pretty big tree down at the beginning of Big Rock in the CCW direction in the middle of the first downhill. If I can remember correctly its before the tree bridge.

There is a non rider at the end of the main trail on the last big downhill after the ramp but before the 4 way cross section if you are going CCW.

chrisathensga I have been riding FATS since about May of last year. I got started riding mountain bikes because I was trying to lose about 100lbs or more. I remember the first time I rode Skinny I thought I was going to die. I rode with a buddy in the CCW direction. It is more climbing in the CCW direction but it is a gradual climb. It is a lot less climbing in the CW direction but the climbs are steeper. Brown Wave is a gradual climb in the CCW direction at the end but a steeper climb in the CW direction. Brown Wave is a totally different trail from one direction to the other. Great Wall is definitely a steeper climb in the CCW direction at the end of the trail. In the CW direction the climb out of Great Wall is more gradual but it is a longer climb. Deep Step is great to me in the CCW direction. It has plenty of climbing but lots of descents as well. The climb at the end is the toughest in that direction. I feel like there is a lot more climbing in the CW direction though. Big Rock in the CCW direction feels like you are climbing Mount Everest right after the first few very fast seconds of descending you start off with. I really enjoy Big Rock in the CW direction, it has a good mix of climbs as well as descents. Tower is more technical climbing in the CW direction. Tower in the CCW direction is definitely not as technical in the CW direction. I really enjoy all of FATS and in both directions but I do have my preferences though but so does everyone you ask. I really don't get this but there are some people out there that like to climb, weirdos! Just kidding. My preferences though is like this. Skinny CW Brown Wave CCW Great Wall CCW Deep Step CCW Big Rock CW Tower CCW I think though as I evolve into a better rider those might change as well. There are a lot of other great trails in the area besides FATS give them all a shot. One of my favorites in the area is Boyd's Pond, definitely try it out if you haven't already.

I was out there on Monday the 19th, actually I have been out there just about everyday for the last month and a half, and Boyd's was excellent in both directions.

I rode Great Wall and Skinny on Friday the 28th and Great Wall was fine as far as trees not being down. Skinny on the other hand had trees down everywhere. I was just wanting to know if the trees got removed or are the trees still down all over Skinny? I hope it has dried out a lot since Friday as well. I would like to get in Great Wall and Skinny on Monday if the trees are gone on Skinny otherwise I will have to come up with a different plan for after work.

Thanks for the update on Big Rock and Tower. We received conflicting reports on Great Wall yesterday (two riders said there was not a tree down any longer and another said there still was a tree down), will check it out and remove the tree in the next couple of weeks if it is still there! The tree at the beginning if you are going CW on great wall is gone as of Sunday. There is still one tree down a little over half way through though. Otherwise deep step, skinny, and Brown wave was good when I rode them on Saturday.
