Hello,
I am sort of new to the area (about maybe 6 1/2 years or so). I have some mountain biking experience in the past but not here in the area. I originally had a mountain bike when I was younger, but when I was in the military that changed when I was stationed in the DC area when I bought a hybrid bike that I've had ever since. Within the last few months I have tried the Canal singletrack and I thought it was a harrowing experience since I haven't been off-road in quite awhile plus first time on a hybrid. Needless to say, starting with one of the toughest trails around didn't help matters much, but I wound up surviving it. Now within the last two days I went up to the lake and yesterday started the Bartram trail starting from the West Dam TH and doing the portion between Lake Springs and West Dam with the Lake Springs loop, and just today I started from West Dam TH again only this time going all the way to Petersburg TH and coming back to West Dam without the loop (the total 12.8 mile trek took me 2 hours and 38 minutes). Looking forward to doing the Petersburg to Washington Road portion next time around.

Hello,
I'm sort of a newbie to the area but not a newbie to the mountain biking as I have done it in the past. I went on a ride this afternoon on the Bartram Trail from West Dam to Petersburg. In between Lake Springs and Petersburg, and in between the 2.5 mile marker and Lake Springs there was an overhanging tree branch hanging over the trail that needs clearing out of the way. Other than that, the entire stretch was good.
