Because friends don't let friends do silly things on bikes alone! :-) It will be a blast no matter what! Can't wait!!

Way to go guys! That is quite the ride! Sounds like the race lived up to its name for some participants. You will have some good karma built up from this race for all the support you provided. :-)

What a wonderful way to spend the day with good friends! Everyone's first duathlon and quite the learning experience. Forget how fun the road bike can be. Thanks ladies for the fun and inspiration. Great job to you too Michael and thanks for the pics.

Nice Liv/Giant Women's Weekend event yesterday and today. Friday night was fun and informative with the fit clinic and some socializing. The morning road ride was quite enjoyable. I demo'd the Giant TRCW. Schweet bike but did not realize until I got it back in the stable what price range it was in. Now I know why it was so nice. ;-) Nice turn out and a fun bunch of people. The Liv/Giant Ladies- Jackie and Lauren were awesome.

I will be attending the Fit clinic on Fri Dec 16 and going on road ride Saturday Dec 17. I'm going to have to dust off my road bike as it has not been ridden in quite a while. Will miss you Barbara but hope to see some other Foxes there! Should be fun.

Thanks for the link. Looks very interesting. Nice mix of bladder and pack sizes. Like the California names of the packs. The Selva is looking like a nice size. Its going to be hard to decide what pack to get with all the choices. :-)

OK, happy to hear all opinions but nice to hear some female specific pack recommendations too as I'm on the smaller side. I did the water bottle, seat pack for a long time and on the trail I'm not so good at riding and snagging my bottle out whereas with the pack I tend to drink a lot more. I was happy to switch. Not to mention its a good cushion for falling backwards, don't ask. I think the Mule is a little bigger than what I'm looking for. I'm thinking something around 70oz and approx 300-500 cu inches for cargo. The Consigliere and the Octane are appealing but was not sure what else was out there. I do have a bottle too btw, but only space to hold one on bike in a pretty much unreachable spot. I keep my Gatorade/non-water drink there for when I stop.

Thinking about getting a new hydration pack and wondering what packs people prefer. Currently have the 50oz Camelbak Fairfax which is nice on shorter rides but need something a little bigger in terms of liquid and storage space for longer rides. What do you have, and do you like it? What features do you like? If you were buying another one what would you get? All comments appreciated.

Helloooo! Julie here. Originally from Savannah, have lived all over. I have been mountain biking on and off since 1994. I started in Baltimore during grad school at Loch Raven, Patapsco and Gunpowder Falls. I actually met my husband through mountain biking there. My first bike was a fully rigid $300 Performance bike that my roommate convinced me to get when she started mountain biking. The first ride was on a rails to trails path in the snow. I was immediately hooked. That bike got stolen when my roomie left the garage unlocked but fortunately I had insurance and immediately upgraded to a nicer Performance bike with front shocks, aka Kanga (Becky, I name my bikes too). I rode that one into the ground and got a GT Karakoram (aka Xena, Warrior Bicycle) when I moved to San Francisco in 1997. There I discovered what real mountains were and some gorgeous views. I also discovered road riding there which is very fun but have always preferred mountain biking as riding in the woods seems to channel my inner child. A crazy friend of mine convinced me to do the 24 hours of Adrenaline on her team (twice) which was quite an experience, especially the lap at 2am where you are convinced there is a mountain lion waiting for you in the tree ahead. I've had my GT for about 15 years and it is now my beater bike for riding around neighborhood with my kids. Moved to Augusta at the end of 2005. A few years after moving to Augusta I saw the notice for the ladies rides. I had not been riding for a while and did not really know the area. There I met Barbara and all the wonderful ladies who make this such a great group. Thank y'all for all you do! They got me back into mountain biking and showed me all the great riding to be had in this area. They did not even laugh at my old bike when I rode with them. :-) When my GT finally started having major issues on the trails Barbara and her husband Michael did some research for me and helped me in my decision to finally get a new bike. I have back trouble so with their help I decided to get the Santa Cruz Juliana (aka Arwen) and entered the world of dual suspension. It was the best purchase of my life and I love my bike. The pictures below are me with my new bike that Michael took. I love all the trails around here and live not too far from the tow path. I work full time and my riding schedule has been on and off but hoping to be more on now than off. Always looking for riding buddies. Hoping to see more women join our Fat Tire Foxes as it is for all levels and anyone who wants to have fun.
