Your ideas sound good to me. Then we have made it VERY obvious that the trails are closed. If someone rides it after that, it will be a lot better in court if the USFS writes somebody for the violation since they then can't say they didn't know and they went around the obvious barriers.

From the cop point of view, the amount that a ticket is written for is usually dependent on whether or not the subject is a repeat offender and many times it depends on the attitude of the subject. I agree that they should write the tickets for a higher amount as long as the trail is clearly posted as being closed. There are obviously many of us that are doing the right thing by not riding the trail when it is closed. If you know of anyone that is poaching the trail, I agree that it should be made known. As another writer said, peer pressure can have a great effect.

I've got 30-50 cinder blocks that I can give to the cause. They're kind of old and many are filled with concrete. Let me know.

It's more of a job than I would advise doing yourself without knowledgeable supervision regarding the spoke lacing, etc. I would take it to a shop. Not getting frustrated, tearing something up, and having to pay for more parts is definitely worth the money.

Angela, I lost your e-mail address so here is the skills clinic info.
A mountain bike skills clinic for women will be held on March 10, 2007 (another huge event will be at Odell Weeks center on the 3rd) 8 AM til 12 at the Odell Weeks Center on Whiskey Rd. in Aiken, SC.
Police Mountain Bike Instructors from the Aiken Department of Public Safety will be teaching the following skills: basic bike fit, gears & shifting, falling, braking, slow-speed bike handling (cone drills), riding over obstacles, and basic field repair (flat-tire & chain).
There is no cost for this clinic.

I get a decent signal with alltell at FATS. the signal seems to be better on the trail than on the nearby roads. Otherwise, Alltell seems to have the best coverage in the CSRA from my experience.
