Just wanting to remind everyone about the beginner's skills clinic at FATS this Saturday (June 21st). We'll get started around 10am, so try and be there before 10 if you plan on attending.

I'll be there with my 10yr old daughter. It will be her first time at FATS but has ridden Bartram and the Canal single track. She cannot wait.

Dear Ms Barbra and Ms Angela, thank you for helping me at Fats. I really am glad that you helped me with my skills. And help me get back up when I fell. And for showing me what I don't want to do on a bike. I had alot of fun at the class. It really helped me. I would really enjoy doing it again. Thank you again!
Cassie
My daughter wanted to say thanks again. I didn't ride as fast as normal but watching Cassie enjoying the trail was well worth it. She is excited to hit the trail soon. We had a good turn out.

Cassie:
You are very welcome! We had as much fun as you did. You rode very well, too. Keep riding and practicing what you learned on Saturday. Practice standing and looking where you want to go. The more you go out and ride, the better you will get. The next time we have a clinic you will learn even more! I look forward to seeing you out on the trails!

Cassie - I was very impressed with the skills you already had..... a lot of adults would struggle with doing 7 and a quarter miles on a mountain bike trail (particularly one such as FATS). I look forward to seeing you back on the trail soon! Keep riding and swimming. Angela

I was talking with Jon Taylor the other day about this very thing. It would be nice if we had a place where some logs, and other features could be set up semi-permanently as a training area. The school of hard knocks out in the woods can be tough, and downright painful for old folks like me. I misjudged a log last Friday and went over the bars onto hard pan; and darn lucky I didn't break a shoulder/ clavicle. I would much rather make those mistakes where there is a softer landing and have someone be able to tell what I just did wrong.

It would be great to have a skills area at FATS.
I do think it's about time for another skills clinic (this thread is 2 years old!). We had a good turn out at the last one. I'll get in touch with Paul and see about getting one set up.
Neal - try and make the explore the trails ride at Modoc next month. That's a GREAT trail to get some skills on, lots of logs down, lots of creek and ditch crossings. There will also be a lot of experienced riders there to give you tips and pointers.
We'll get John T. to show you how to ride the first rock drop LOL. (sorry John - couldn't resist!)

Modoc is a very good trail. It has a lot of technical challenges if you are game, but easy enough to walk them and just enjoy the nice scenery if you choose. In warm weather the out and back 14 miles can be a challenge with the climbs (they aren't too bad) for those susceptible to heat; but you can always go one way and circle back by road. I hope there is a large turnout because we have a lot of great trails besides FATS that are underutilized.

Ive been wanting to ride Lick Fork, Modoc, and Keg (again) but its been hard finding time.
