Bill,
I'm looking at going up to LCT next week... Is short piece on the lower section still closed due to it crossing private property?
Last time we hiked it there was a sign saying this section was closed but that they were working on a solution.
thanks

If I am thinking correctly, I'd stay away from that section as it is near the Long Cane Creek and will be pretty wet. All the stuff on the southern portion of the loop could be pretty bad if the horses have been out during this wet weather.
I'd go all the way to the 505/506 intersection and start there. That is usually the highest/dryest trail up there.
The section you are talking about is really short, isn't it? Don't you just stay on the paved road for about a 1/4 mile at most and it get back on USFS lands?

I think it is about 1/2 mile section that crosses private property. Around the souther most tip at point J on the map near Hwy 33.
The paved road section... is that Hwy 33 you are using? Last time we took the cut through in order to shorten the trip.... and we didn't want to accidentally cross onto private property during the heart of hunting season...

Yes, it was hwy 33.
I don't ever go ride that section of the LCHT. All the good stuff is on the other half of the loop, IMHO. I'd imagine the same could be said for hiking.
I look a the LCHT as a figure 8 of sorts. And I tend to stay on the northern circle and the private property issue is on the southern (wetter) circle.

web.mac.com/ashby_stokes/Greenwoodmtb/Home.htmlTake a look at this site. It is maintained by Ashby Stokes, a Greenwood rider. Interestingly, their map only shows the top half of the bigger loop. It does show some of the lower loop, but only as out/backs to the upper loop. I'd stick to the trails shown on this site. Locals know best.....and this site is the local LCHT site.

You can do the whole trail as a figure eight and it works out to somewhere between 30 and 35 miles but the southern part that ties into the campground at Parsons Mtn is infrequently ridden.
