A strong thunderstorm came barreling through this evening dropping a lot of rain on top of the app 2.5 inches from Thursday. Trails at FATS will need 24 to 48 hours to dry out. Other outlying trails will be ready to ride much more quickly

Now that preliminary maintenance has been completed on our outlying trails, the focus turns to FATS! We will be starting with Deep Step Trail and the connector on Saturday morning, July 11th. We would like to have two separate work groups, the first group coming through with equipment (DR mowers, string trimmers, etc) and a second group coming through with loppers. Even if this is not your favorite trail but the work party aligns with your schedule please sign up. Please sign up for this work party by emailing sorba.csra@gmail.com and share with others!

FATS is under official closure by the US Forest Service. The trails have received between 3 and 4 inches of rain over the past 24+ hours and need time to dry out. Please respect the closure and do not use the trails. Stay tuned for updates.

FATS is officially open!
Trails are wet in the usual places. Heads up, the areas that were checked revealed some serious erosion from that deluge of rain, unlike we’ve seen before on these trails.
One area of particular note is in the first quarter mile of lower Skinny (the fun downhill) before the first power line crossing. A very long and in some places a foot deep crevice was formed by the rushing water.

In cooperation with the US Forest Service we have temporarily taped off lower Skinny until a couple of badly eroded sections have been repaired. Stay tuned for updates!

Lower Skinny is back open and needs wheels and feet to solidify the work that was done! Two badly eroded areas on Skinny were dealt with but there are still some lesser eroded areas on the rest of the south loops so heads up!
There are a couple of seriously eroded spots on Tower so ride carefully until those can be addressed.

FATS did get rain last night but not as heavily as the area just west of FATS. As is usual after rain in the summer months best to wait a few hours to utilize the trail. We will be doing a trail check this morning, stay tuned!

Trail tread is damp but firm and there are the usual mucky spots. Trail is good to go from a trail perspective will be a better ride later today and even better over the weekend (unless we get more rain).

Next work party> The 5th Annual Sherri West Memorial Work Party on the Skinny Trail at FATS. Saturday, August 8th email sorba.csra@gmail.com if you can help! If not please help spread the word!
Sherri loved our local trails, was a great supporter of SORBAcsra and a solid trail advocate who signed up for nearly every regular work party. Since COVID19 has altered the way we are handling our work parties this year we picked the Skinny Trail work party to honor her since it was one of her favorites!

Between an inch and an inch and a half of rain hit FATS between 7 and 9 this evening. It’s been dry out there so it should be absorbed pretty quickly, please give the trails 24 hours to dry out. Thank you!

FATS picked up just over an inch of rain in about an hour. Trails should absorb what didn’t run off fairly quickly. Trails should be good by later tomorrow.

We are still short having enough volunteers for Saturday's work party (August 8th) on the Skinny Trail.
If you are able to come help at this work party please send an email to sorba.csra@gmail.com
If you are not able but know someone who might can help be sure and spread the word. This is the most OVERGROWN trail on FATS so we want to make sure it gets cut back well.

FATS needs another day to dry out. Out at FATS last night cutting trees off the trail and doing prep for Saturday’s work party (we still need a few more volunteers) it was apparent that FATS received more rain than anticipated in areas from Wednesday night’s storms.
As we were leaving a thunderstorm was headed our way. It appears, given the radar and assuming no middle of the night showers that FATS dodged additional heavy rain. Will do a trail check later today.

FATS is going to be sloppy from those rounds of thunderstorms so it’s a great day for riding one of our outlying trails. The Keg Creek Selfie Contest runs through Aug 31st. All trees are off that trail and the tread is great. Your selfie with the 23 mile marker = a chance to win a $50 gift certificate from AJBW! Submit your selfie to sorba.csra@gmail.com
