I rode the Horne Creek Trail on Sunday, August 19, 2018 following the 5 mile bike path and also riding some of the Forest Service roads in the area. The bike trail is in so-so condition. Much of the wooded areas are quite clean and easy going. There is some fall-down but not that much under the circumstances. The open grassy areas are a little more tedious. In places the trail is almost completely obscured by overgrown grass, weeds, and brambles. The Forest Service roads are enjoyable to ride and offer a little diversion from the trail. I tried to find a passage over Lick Fork creek up to Quail Run road and the "spooky" house but couldn't make that happen. The Forest Service has curtailed the maintenance and supervision of the Lick Fork recreation lake and campsite and it appears a little forlorn. Even though the park is completely open and accessible, there was but one lone fisherman on the lake and a single occupied campsite...seems like kind of a waste of a very pristine and picturesque area. Hopefully, more people will re-discover this natural, quiet, and peaceful park. All in all, this was a great Sunday excursion in the Carolina woods.
