Unfortunately the rain has kept coming with the last line of thunderstorms rolling through late early evening yesterday. We have had close to 9 inches of rain in the area in about 3 weeks. It’s going to take several days without rain for the trails to dry out. Stay tuned!!

FATS is still under official USFS closure. We had more rain yesterday so are at about 8 inches for the past three weeks. Looks like we are at the start of a dry spell (if the predictions are accurate) so the trails will start drying out. Stay tuned!

FATS will be open on Thursday, June 7th. There are quite a few trees down along the trail so be alert. Some can be removed with a handsaw by anyone with a handsaw (the vast majority that are down fall into that category). The remainder need to be removed by our USFS certified sawyers and they will be out over the next week or so taking care of the larger downed trees. Thanks!

We currently have 15 people signed up for the annual FATS work party scheduled for Saturday, June 30th. Please let us know if you can help with this work party and spread the word. With only 15 people that will enable us to do either Skinny or Great Wall but not both. If you can help please email us at SORBA.csra@gmail.com Thank you and please help spread the word! Sherri West Memorial Work Party at FATS - Saturday, June 30th We are organizing a large work party at FATS for Saturday, June 30th. This will be the 3rd Annual Sherri West Memorial Work Party. Sherri was a member of SORBAcsra and a regular volunteer at work parties and FATS was one of her favorite places to work and ride. The scale and scope of this work party will depend on the number of volunteers who sign up and show up to work. The concentration of this work party will be Great Wall and Skinny. We will need nearly 30 volunteers to mobilize all the equipment to cover about 15 miles of trail. Please pass the word along about this work party. If you know you can commit and want to go ahead and sign-up now (or if you have questions), please email us at> sorba.csra@gmail.com We need maximum participation, with all the rain we have had the overgrowth will be getting worse week after week. Thank you!

Only 3 people signed up to finish the work on Skinny and Great Wall tomorrow (July 7th). We need a minimum of 12 people to complete this work. Whatever is not finished tomorrow will remain unfinished as we move on to other trails.
If you take a look at your schedule and now find you can help please email us at sorba.csra@gmail.com as soon as possible. It will take time to get equipment refueled and prep done before tomorrow if we do get more volunteers!
Thank you and please help spread the word!

I rode Big Rock and the Tower Loop on Friday, August 31 at FATS. Now that's some bike trails! The trail was in almost perfect condition; no trees down, no debris, just smooth, hard single track. Surprisingly, I did not see a single soul on the entire course, yet the main parking area at FATS was packed. I put in at the Big Rock parking site and headed west CW and rode past the "Big" rock up to the FS661 crossing. For some diversion, I headed down the gravel road and jumped back on Big Rock at the parking area heading CCW. The little cedar bridge comes up pretty quick...you don't want to go over the side of that thing... it would hurt. The SORBA guys have done some clever work; cutting in a few alternate ride-arounds...very impressive. The several hundred yards and two hairpins just before the fire tower is pretty taxing. If I could have pedaled any slower around them, I would have been going backwards. There is a great reward though coming off those climbs; the next 3500 feet or so is cooling off time...fast and smooth...some of the best ride out there. I first rode these trails almost ten years ago soon after they had been constructed. Now matured, Big Rock and the Tower Loop are probably the best tracks in all of FATS, in my opinion.

We love those trails too! Since they do not get the same traffic as the south loops it is a great place to get more of a backcountry riding experience. If you do both of the loops it's hard to believe you have only ridden about 9 miles. We are moving into fall quickly and some of the best color in the woods are right there on those trails. Good riding for sure.

The USFS is closing FATS until this weather system passes through the area. Trail will be closed starting this morning 10/10/18 and the USFS will make assessments for opening as soon as the system passes through.
