LOST CONNECTOR ROUTE HAS BEEN FOUND!!! ;D
For those that ride the connector between Turkey Creek and Modoc.....MB & I rode the old school connector route today.
Yep....the one with the babyheads (rocks) that the paper company put all over the old roads for the logging operation. After 5-7 years, the rocks are mostly pounded into the roadbed now and make for a cool backcountry ride. It is mostly DH in the Modoc to Turkey direction. It is not the primo double track/singletrack of yesteryear, but it was still highly nastolgic for this ole boy.
The first set of powerlines (the ones Modoc used to end at) are the most difficult to deal with. We got on the powerlines by riding the property line up to where we could make an easy right onto them. Then up and down some hills, be sure to stay straight on the powerlines at the first left. I repeat don't take the first left you come to. Eventually, it will start to look vaguely familiar. After you cross the rutted gully into the creek crossing, get to the left side of the powerlines and ride up and down a few more hills. Look for a left and take it. I'm 50/50 that this is the old roadbed that sat kinda angled across the powerlines from the spot the trail used to end on the powerlines. Anyway from there, take this to your first left and you will recognize the old roadbed that has all the rocks on it. You are on the old school connector. If you know the way, you can find it from here.
We rode the old "TJ's route" and popped out at the intersection of Mt. Lebanon Church Road and Price Mill Road. This old route cuts off 2+ miles of pavement of the connector ride.
Most of it is on paper co. land. Ride at your own risk.
