How are the trails after the rain on 10/13-10/14? We received a lot of rain in the upstate of SC, but radar looked like maybe FATS missed the extreme amounts. I was trying to decide on where to ride this weekend, and thought I would ask. I was at Bartram last week, and it was actually very dry, so maybe FATS could survive a bit of rain. TIA.

Rode yesterday, trails are all pretty dry & dusty. Lots of fallen leaves and pine needles starting to hide big sections, which makes it even more fun and adventurous! It was a bit warm for late Oct, but very low humidity, gotta love GA/SC fall weather.

Rode Big Rock and Tower Today. Excellent trail conditions. A little leaf litter but nothing bad.

Thanks for the update on Big Rock and Tower. We received conflicting reports on Great Wall yesterday (two riders said there was not a tree down any longer and another said there still was a tree down), will check it out and remove the tree in the next couple of weeks if it is still there!

The tree at the beginning if you are going CW on great wall is gone as of Sunday. There is still one tree down a little over half way through though. Otherwise deep step, skinny, and Brown wave was good when I rode them on Saturday.

FATS is too wet to ride. We had 2 inches of rain in some parts of the area on Sunday. Also have had additional intermittent rain today and more scheduled in the next day or so. Light rain continuing today (Tuesday) with more predicted for tomorrow. If the rain is light, trails might be good for riding by the weekend.

I rode Great Wall and Skinny on Friday the 28th and Great Wall was fine as far as trees not being down. Skinny on the other hand had trees down everywhere. I was just wanting to know if the trees got removed or are the trees still down all over Skinny? I hope it has dried out a lot since Friday as well. I would like to get in Great Wall and Skinny on Monday if the trees are gone on Skinny otherwise I will have to come up with a different plan for after work.

I would like to get in Great Wall and Skinny on Monday if the trees are gone on Skinny otherwise I will have to come up with a different plan for after work. As on update on Skinny there are only 2 small pines down on the lower Skinny so I suspect that most of the other trees you saw down were removed by riders, runners or hikers. Both of the small pines will likely be removed by someone with a handsaw (could even be you over the next week or so. On the upper Skinny there is a larger pine down that will need a chainsaw (this one will need to be removed by a USDA Forest Service certified sawyer - also a volunteer). It is not in a dangerous spot and it can be ridden but since it is one of the already dead pines that has fallen across the trail it will likely be removed at some point over the next month or so. In case you don't know Hemi, nearly 100% of the work/maintenance that is done on all of the 150 miles of trail in our area is performed by volunteers. A large portion of those volunteers are a relatively small group of SORBAcsra members who are simply very busy people in their personal lives who also happen to love riding the trails and step up to work on the trails. If a dangerous condition exists when a tree or tree is down we try to get someone to head out to take care of that as quickly as they can but otherwise the volunteers simply have to work it in when they can or we have to call for a work party when one can be scheduled. There is no standby crew of workers that can be dispatched out in a matter of hours or even days to take care of downed trees along the trail. Just so you will know, over the past four years for instance, volunteers have typically put in over 1,000 hours of work on the trails each year. This year, due to the ice storm and a large community event our chapter supported, those work hours doubled to over 2,000 hours. Come join us!

Rained on Saturday, fairly lightly so the trails were okay to ride on Sunday but there were some soft/damp areas. By Monday the early morning mist and drizzle turned into rain on a cloudy, chilly overcast day (not conducive for trails drying out). More rain predicted today, tonight and into Christmas Eve. Please don't ride the trails and it will take two or three days after the rain ends this time (rain over a period time, the winter months with cooler temps and the plants pulling water out of the soil very slowly)before the trails will be okay to ride again. Thanks for helping protect our trails. Stay tuned!

Post from our SORBAcsra Facebook page> FATS and Bartram are too wet to ride. Stay home, enjoy your family and relatives, make a donation to SORBAcsra, renew your IMBA membership, and play with your new toys until (at least) Saturday. Don't be "that guy or girl" that gives the USFS a reason to enforce a trail closure at FATS. Over 2" of rain, in the last 48 hours, recorded at the USACE/Lake Thurmond Dam weather station, with more heavy rain forecast for today. If you are unsure whether the trails are dry enough to ride, chances are they are still too wet. Thank you for your support. FATS and Bartram are too wet to ride. The USFS has incorporated FATS into their "Call Before You Haul" hotline that gives recent/updated information on trail conditions in Sumter National Forest. www.fs.usda.gov/recmain/scnfs/recreationor call (803) 561-4025.

Continued to have rain over the weekend and more early this morning. FATS is too wet to ride. Looks like we will have a dry spell for the next few days but unfortunately they are projecting more rain over the coming weekend.

With the weather clearing up a bit the next 2 days, will the trail be open to ride Thursday/Friday? Coming from Charleston and Greenville.
