A few things I learned at the meeting last night that people may find of interest:
The focus is not on competition, but on fun, community, and creating life long cyclists. Everyone is welcome, kids that have been riding for years and kids who have never been mountain biking are all welcome and encouraged to participate.
Teams can be formed multiple ways. 1 - a school has their own team 2 - an "area" team, with kids from several different schools
Don't have a team? You can still race as a solo rider, but they really want everyone to be on a team if at all possible. It's more fun that way.
SC Students can also race in the GA League! In fact, any high school kid can race in any HS league race in any state.
Eventually there will be a middle school program as well.
The inagural season kicks off with it's first race on Sept 7th, 2014. There will be 4 races, all in the fall. I don't know where or when those will be.
The Leaders Summit will be at Mulburry Gap on May 3rd and 4th.

It's pretty cool that Georgia has something like this going on, and I look forward to watching this develop and hopefully take hold. Any idea if any local teams are forming, or of any opportunities to help out/volunteer?

Here are links for the National Interscholastic Cycling League and the Georgia High School Cycling League. Both have information on getting involved as a coach/ride leader and how teams can form. www.nationalmtb.org/georgiamtb.org/
