Ted even without the rain these really mushy areas will probably last a few more days. We were out on Great Wall yesterday and encountered exactly the same thing. Bartram east also has similar areas and some serious water in some places we normally would not see it. These are generally caused by the seeps or little springs that have sprung up due to the high water table. Once the water table drops those seeps will stop. You'll probably notice other areas that you are scratching your head on that are bone dry in the same sections of trail.

Noticed the mud/rutted spos from the 'burg tithe dam are getting flat. Good thing. A few damp spos but no mud. Also, almost looks like someone is clearing the small bisecting trails of Lake Springs. Some paint marking on trees and the trail bed looked clear of brush.

Last weekend we rode from the dam out to mistletoe and back and I had left a stash at the Bartram/Washington rd intersection. When we got back to west dam we jumped in the lake and cleaned up and chatted around a bit and I was so wiped out I just totally forgot to go back and pick up the junk we had left at the end of Bartram. Not really sure why this just occurred to me now?? I wont be able to make it out there until Saturday. So if your riding along and see the mess and think "what kind of Ass hole would leave all this crap here" Well it was me. If anyone is driving by before then and can grab my junk that'd be great. If the critters haven't gotten to it there should be a few granola bars some bananas and an empty gallon of water and a gator aid bottle. If entering the trail from Washington rd you will see the stash off to the right about 20 feet down the trail.
riders beware: The back way into mistletoe is getting pretty jammed up with trees. When you get into mistletoe and join up on the main loop, if you go right you quickly come to a creek crossing with a pretty high bank and deep drop in, usually not much of a problem, almost always a little water at the bottom. Right now it is all jammed up with logs and crap from the rains and has about 4 feet or so of nasty looking brown water. As we were scouting away around, it began to thunder so we turned it around and headed back toward west dam. I got report from another rider who did this same ride on Saturday, when they got to the main loop they went left and didn't come to the impasse until they were almost done with the loop so they just waded through it.(nasty!)
Overall keg was in pretty good shape, Bartram had a few trees down.

A very quick ride on new Bartram just before the sunset last night - from Petersburg heading west there were trees non-riders down at the .75 mile , 2 mile, 4 mile (more than one here) - all of these will need a chainsaw. We only made it out to the 10.5 mile marker. And this is what awaits at around the 10.5 mile marker (you can see the bridge in the distance for reference)!

The above is ride-able but it does pose an impaling danger. It that broken log sticking up could be removed it would be safe. Rode to make 12 and was clear after this. Lake is up. One spot after the big dip it covers a small section. Also on tree down out by the Keg Creek sign. Only trail ran to the air strip.

This past Sunday a few of us gals started at West Dam headed toward Petersburg. Big ole mess within first 1/2 mile at the rocky section. Two big trees down. Makes for a difficult climb over. Another mess at about mile 5 with a tree or two down. Branches and foliage blocking trail. I think there may have been one more within first 5 miles.
BTW great job Stella on your first ride and Julie's daughter Kate on second. We had fun.

Does anyone think Bartram will be rideable tomorrow July 6th? I doubt it, but you might go out and see how the tread is faring. If your tires consistently leave a track on the tread, it is still too wet and you probably should turn around. On the other hand, if there are only short stretches of wetness every mile or so (i.e., a small percentage of the total mileage), it is probably O.K. Because of the clay, which is super slick when wet, it's no fun slipping and sliding on the trail. If you do go out, post the conditions and maybe a representative pic or two.

I set out from Petersburg and headed toward West Dam. It wasn't terrible at first. There were some expected wet spots but overall it was in pretty good condition. The closer I got to West Dam the worse it got. The section between Lake Springs and West Dam started getting pretty wet and it started raining (surprise) so I turned around. If we could get 24 hours of no rain I think it would be good. I didn't think about getting any pics.

FYI: The proposed logging for the section of Bartram Trail between West Dam and Lake Springs has been postponed until sometime after September. As I receive more information/updates about this logging project, I will pass it along.
Thank you for your support.

There is another log down between there also, rider but sadly in the stretch that is designed for beginners. Lake Springs has two spots with trees. One is a few down just after the trails are close together (can see the road) on the road side trail going cw. Other is near marker 2.5. This one maybe a rider. There is mud out there. Mostly organic material with solid tread underneath. 'burg to the airstrip is wetter then the rest. I did remove some debris along the ride.

Rode Bartram today. Trees down at 4.0 and 5.7 miles both non-rider. The part from Petersburg to the 8.0 marker was good no fallen trees and only occasional muddy spots. It seemed like there had been a local shower from 3 miles to the trail head at Petersburg. I only got as far as the 8 mile marker so I don't know about anywhere else. The trail was in better condition than I expected.
