Me and my crew rode Deep Step for the first time and oh boy was it a work out.
Crazily enough we rode skinny right after for the hell of it. ;D

Went down that rough rooty section with WAY too much speed, and was into it before I had time to slow down, and the way I was bouncing around I was afraid to even try and grab the brakes...somehow I was still on the bike at the other end. Good times.... Do Deep Step + Big Rock + Tower for one of the best workouts at FATS short of doing all six loops.

Angela passed on a neat tip to me. You can ride Deep Step in a Figure 8 to get more downhill on the singletrack. Ride down either direction and once you get to the road, just ride up it and then repeat down the other side. Probably could spin some good laps this way. I aslo agree with Dustin. Adding Big Rock and Tower is a great ride. Much more of a workout and mileage than just riding the typical three that most do in a day (GW, Twr, and BW) Big Rock and Tower certainly need the wheels these days. Just watch out for the slab bridge on the tail end of Tower if you are riding it CW. It always sneaks up on me as I am barrelling down the trail. Scares the hell out of me that I will crash into the gulley YOu will know it when you see it. Riding loops CW is best in my opinion, just keep turning left at all intersections. Bring your camera as well, you can snap some neat photos out there. Parts remind me of COL.

EDIT. The slab bridge is on Big Rock. Not far in if you ride CCW from the trail head. and
I meant (GW, S, and BW) instead of "Twr"

With the gravel road (FS-661) that cuts the trail into two pieces? The figure 8 is a fun way to do it, been a while since I've done it that way. I like everything best CCW except for Tower, which seems to hurt a little less going CW. Top 3: www.strava.com/rides/29548053?fb_source=timeline&ref=profile&refid=17

When you get to the road, ride back towards the trailhead, turn back into the woods and then ride the southern half CW. at least that's what my words in his mouth are saying.

Quickag is correct. I was referring to Deep Step. Ride the uphill on the road. But your figure eight at Big Rock sounds interesting as well--most likely no vehicle traffic to contend with

I like the figure 8 of Deep Step generally going CCW first then up the road and CW on the other section and back up the road (although either is just fine) - you get a longer ride in and get to do both downhill sections on the actual trail. On Big Rock and Tower I like the figure 8 going CCW on Big Rock and then CW on Tower then finish up Big Rock. But then it's all good!

I've done all the loops like that except Tower. Down the single, to the bottom, and up the road (paved or gravel). You do Skinny and Brown Wave together and ride up the gravel road from the very bottom of BW...662D? Then down the other way, making it a figure 8 on the two loops.
Great Wall has a gravel road to ride up and make a figure 8. You can get on it on 2 places fairly easily if you know where to go.
And Big Rock has the most obvious figure 8 route.
-----
And then there is the Mark Hanna Deep Step-BR-TWR route. You go out Deep Step CCW, but when you return, you go back up the side you rode down. It's a bit harder going up this side than completing the loop. I think it gains 420 feet from the bridge on Deep Steep right by the Connector intersection to the paved road up top going CW. It's about 2.5ish miles or so. Not bad for 600' above sea level.
