The much anticipated round 1 of the 2013 SCGTT series kicks off on Saturday, and the CSRA has a big crowd heading up to ride the rocks! The forecast is looking good, no more rain this week, only a 20% chance on Saturday and temps ranging from upper 30's to low 50's. Hopefully the water level in the first creek crossing will drop... (pic stollen from Facebook, posted yesterday) I count 16 CSRA riders (that I know of) heading up this month, with at least one (dsquared) sitting this round out due to illness. Here's the roster: Me Mark H Tom Z Stan C Ted S Frankie G Tyler F David F Tammy F Nevin L Becky L David P John F Gator Doyce Brian Wish us luck!

Best of luck to all of our local riders. Wear those SORBACSRA jerseys proudly (at the pre-ride we had the best looking jerseys). I'm with Angela, I wish I could be a the finish line to cheer all of you in at the end.

I'm so looking forward to the creek crossing. It's the sort of thing that shows us what we're made of! Woot woot!

The creek is one of those things people stress over before the race (i'm guilty of this) but once you're there you just deal with it, it only takes a few minutes at most to get across. And that's assuming you remove socks/shoes and wade across - carry the bike, keep your chain and bearings out of the water, don't want to wash all the lube away with 32ish miles left to go!
But once you're past the creek you kinda forget all about it, until a week or so before the next race and you start worrying about it again lol

Good luck to all. Count me in with Angela and John as wishing I could be there to support the locals.
A special snot rocket, belching, loud and proud WOOT WOOT to my girl Becky. I'm proud of you and I know you will kick arse!

Reality check on that creek crossing. Could be worse.

Round one is in the books. Conditions were great, nice and cold, the creek was easily rideable, the double track on the first half was a little muddy, but otherwise the trail was in great shape. I'm happy with my ride, never felt really good, and the traffic was a pain to deal with on the singlespeed going up the climbs, but I finished in 4:33, 45 minutes faster than my best time last year. David F crashed and may have broke a collar bone, but everyone else had good rides.

We had a great time at the Snake and we are looking forward to the remaining races (if you asked me this after I crossed the finish line yesterday you would have gotten a different answer...LOL) Nevin did great with a time of 3:53:23 (yeee haaa). My time was 5:31:20 and I was second to last in the women’s 30 and over, which ain’t bad but I can do better. I flatted in the second 17 miles and it was a sidewall puncture while I was WALKING my bike through a stream. Very strange but I managed to get the rest of the Stans out and get a tube in but I need to practice that more because I’m not very efficient since my husband spoils me. ;o) The first 17 miles were harder than I thought because it was wet and muddy and my climbing legs hadn’t kicked in yet. There was a lot of traffic so I moved over for dudes to pass. Met some great folks on the trail and enjoyed the camaraderie . Mtn bikers are a great group of people! Thanks for all the well wishes!

Big 'congrats!' to crockpot for taking the lead in the clydesdale class yesterday! Now he's gotta defend it! Becky - you did awesome. The Snake is a beast, and to finish, and then come back for more, well, that's a win in my book. I don't know the rider in this pic, but it's a great shot of the trail. More here on Facebook

I don't know the rider in this pic, but it's a great shot of the trail. I had been second guessing my decision to not ride the Snake, but this picture reminds me that I made the correct call; I would have suffered like I've never suffered before. It's great to see such a large turnout from the CSRA and so many new PRs. Hopefully, the good weather will continue for the next two races.

I know Stan, and he is indeed in the running for a Clyde, but I have met Mike P several times, been to his shop, know all about his LBS-owner status and know that he gives back WAY more than he makes in the MTB-community, but his status as a Clyde is, well, in question. I know he claims it for many races in the mountains, but, but, just sayin'. Almost need to have a boxing-style weigh-in once in a while. Bec: Awesome. Love seeing you schoolin' The Snake! MD

"There was a lot of traffic so I moved over for dudes to pass." Read more: sorbacsra.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Ridepost&action=display&thread=3326&page=2#ixzz2HF74MsdTAnd cheer!!! it was very cool to be cheered on by name as we made our way up that first climb. Thanks Becky! Stayed with Dan pretty much the entire race(we finished with in seconds of each other), rode a bit with Doyce(who beat me by 7 seconds) and Brian and D.Funk, Finished the last few miles with Dan & Stan ... Stan put 2+ minutes on Dan and I descending on the pavement(2 miles) to the finish... WOW. Never went far with out seeing a familiar face, running across Mark, Dustin and Tom at various points along the way. Congrats to Stan leading his category and wishing D. Funk a speedy recovery. Good fun hanging out with Team Funk at the finish. Really Really fun ride!

Thanks all. I spent yesterday on the couch watching old movies and eating as healthy as I could. I paid he price so to speak. I felt pretty in control of the race mentally the whole time. I just did not get too wound up about goofs and tried to cheer others. I think I have 5 minutes to gain by NOT stopping at the rest areas and by being a little more assertive with passing. I took a lot of opportunities to sit in on the long climbs when people were going too slow. I also hope to cut my weight a little closer to 200. Weigh in allows for clothing and shoes (No camelback) and I'm at about 212 now nekked. What was motivating was to try to follow Dan down the hills. Ted's no slouch but holy cow! Dan complianed the whole way but it was impressive.
That most all of us improved over last year is pretty telling. Looking forward to the next one.

Snake Question, is the February race generally warmer? Our vehicle temp showed 28 on Saturday & my feet AGREED, I felt like rubbing Ice on them to warm them up. Any advice to avoid cold feet? Thanks
