This is gonna be fun! We love the LCHT and ride it every time we go to visit my dad at Lake Greenwood. A bunch of us are camping at HKSP that weekend and plan to attend this event. If you haven't ridden this trail you've gotta try it. Yeee haaa! ;D

I plan to get up there early, start riding about 8AM, and ride the full figure 8 and cover the whole thing.

Nevin will be happy to know there will be a bunch of hammer heads there. I'll make sure he checks the forum for any logistics.

This is great - having a dual start ride - an 8am for the hard core do the whole trail and then another ride that all levels of riders can participate in at 10am. Let me know if we need to do some kind of water or drink drop for you on our way in at 9:30!

Don't forget to sign up for this event, still plenty of time but get it on your calendar. This is a trail you should not miss and the Greenwood guys are fantastic hosts and always proud to show off the trail.
A lot of SORBA chapters celebrate National Trails Day by having a work party but we always have used it as a time to come together for some riding, socializing, and breaking bread!

Have you all extended an invitation to this to the Midlands chapter? I know a lot of folks enjoyed it last year. Their monthly meeting is tonight, and their facebook page is here: www.facebook.com/MidlandsSORBA

We extended the invitation to both Midlands and Upstate SORBA again this year but I don't believe we've heard back from our contact at either chapter yet. If you have another contact there please let us know we'd love to have them join us!

If you haven't taken the time to sign up yet please sign up at the link below so we can plan for the cookout after the ride! Great trail, free food, great socializing! www.surveymonkey.com/s/DVC57q3

Few questions since I have never ridden Long Cane.
1. What is the distance doing the figure eight? 2. Are folks still planning on riding it? Anyone besides the hammerheads? 3. Directions on getting to Fells? How long does it take to drive from Evans?
Thanks.

Brian, on the drive time; allow yourself an hour + to get there and unload. It is about 45 miles.
Go to Google Maps and put in Fell Hunt Campground. You can get directions from your front door.

The guys going out early to do the whole route are the first ride for the day, the second ride will start at the Fell Horse Camp at 10am and will head down to Big Rock and back (I think that is just over 14 miles) we will be riding at a moderate pace and it is in out down the Big Rock so anyone that needs to pace themselves for a shorter ride can just go out x number of miles and then head back. Again, pacing yourself and knowing when you need to turn around makes this trail fine for everyone, it's not technical and I think there are two creek crossings on the way to Big Rock but easy to dismount and walk over if need be (if you are thinking of bringing young ones)! Beautiful trail! The terrain is very similar to FATS on that section of trail. Here is a map with the various mileages of that trail! We'll be riding from A to G but other groups will keep going on, it turns out very good! www.abbevillecountysc.com/_fileUploads/forms/138_LongCaneHorseTrail.pdf
