The lower section of the canal towpath is great these days. I'm glad they closed the road to cars, it worked as far as keeping the riff-raff out of the area. Guess they're too lazy to get back there if they can't drive. Went out there Saturday with the wife for a quick easy cruise on the bikes, parked at the Kroc Center. There was a huge family also parking there and going for a ride, probably a dozen of them, all ages from elementary school age kids to their grand parents. Lots of people out using the tow path responsibly, running, riding, saw a few folks fishing. Even saw a sheriff deputy patrolling as we headed out. This area is really pretty when it's not full of 400lbs people in "swimsuits".

Yea, REAL nice not getting "dusted" by vehicles cruising back and forth. Dustin, you are right about riff raff. My brother and I hiked the Georgia side of the Chatooga River from Hwy 28 to Hwy 176 some years ago and the trail was pristine until we came upon an access road to Warwoman Creek. A makeshift camping spot was full of beer cans and trash where yahoos had driven in.

Well, the punks at the rope swing have sure made that area look like crap.. Ian and I did some trail work this morning and that are just looks like crap.. Maybe with the low water and the fact that it looks like someone cut their ropes, maybe that won't hang out down there any more.. Such a downer..

I have been hiking these parts for over 20 years and upset that they lock the gates now. it doesn't slow me down from getting out there almost every weekend but miss when I could just park at the falls.

Park at Eisenhower, it isn't that much farther; or Olmstead.
