Bartram is clear from WW to West Dam unless something else has fallen since last reports. J. Burnham and I cleared the last 6 trees today; which made about 15 or 16 total including last week's pass. PLEASE bring on some lower humidity!!

MY and JB, thanks much for clearing the trees. Bartram is in nice shape at this time, EXCEPT for major overgrowth in the clearings. The airstrip crossing is almost impassable. The entrance to Lake Springs on the east end is bad too. I'd be happy to take part in a mowing party, will talk to some others about putting something together.

Just off Bartram .....the trail tread is perfect, totally dry but not dusty on the west side!

For those that have "been there done that"; how has the airstrip been handled in the past?

Normally one cutting a year has been sufficient but this year hasn't been normal we will have the mowers out at turkey creek this weekend so there is a possibility of swinging back by bartram (it involves a locked gate which we have access to) let's see what can be worked out - I have never seen it as overgrown as it was last night!

I was wondering about that road. I looked at it last night with Google Earth and recognized that if one could get on that road it would take you there. I would offer to take care of it this weekend while the mowers were out but I will be out of town.

Have also used the boat to get to that area, and then just walked a few feet with hedgers and a weed whacker. The lake is so low now that it is risky (for the prop and skeg) to get into there. The road is now the number one way to get it done.

Got a good ride this morning on the Bartram west of Petersburg and then took the handoff from the crew who went out to Turkey this morning for some cleanup mowing (John Pilcher, Tom Zeaser, Robert Burton and Banks Mumford) and took the mowers to Bartram to take care of the airstrip and the section going down the hill past the white barrier at Lake Springs and past the cut off to West Dam. Here are a few pictures! I was all smiles as I got to operate the new DR mower today, it was really sweet! Just a note, for people getting themselves ready for the Baker's Dozen this trail is a well-kept secret and will get you into condition with the constant peddling pretty quickly. You can easily get out there and pick up a solid 30+ aerobic miles! Just getting to the airstrip mow point was a challenge!! Daniel's new trailer worked well for transporting the DR mowers - Looking east on the airstrip - Before Looking east - After Looking west - Before Looking west - After Posted wrong pic earlier here is correct one! Lake Springs area down the road past the white barrier and past the cut off to West Dam - Before After Not sure what the first pic is ( dug around until I found it and the flower below is the Spurred Butterfly Pea , the second one is American Beautyberry both currently making a show along the trails!

Just the area below the cut off to West Dam - the area that forms a tunnel of Wisteria earlier in the year! You are probably talking about the open area after you are actually into the Lake Springs loops going CW correct?

Many thanks for the mowing. I would like to grab a DR one day and hit a patch on the WW to Wash rd section that has gotten pretty overgrown. Should be able to drive in real close from the disc golf side.

If I recall correctly, there are about four trees down heading west. They are all non riders and will need a big saw. We rode about eight and a half miles when we came upon a huge tree in the middle of the trail.

I rode from Petersburg to WW on Wednesday. If I recall, they are pretty spread out. One is about 1/2 mile east of pollard's pavilion, about 1 ft diameter, chest high. Another one is a couple hundred yards east of Wildwood, rotton old busted pine. I don't remember the location of the other two. There are about 4 nice riders on this section.

We rode from P to Wash Rd this morning. Trees at 12.1 (fell in the trail, and we can ride along side it); 13.2; 14.9; 16.8; 17.8 (one small tree plus one pine that is partway in the trail but you can get by it). The biggest tree is at 16.8, but is rotten enough that a small saw would be enough. There are two new riders in the first 3 miles. It would be nice to have a DR come in Washington road, go about a mile, and turn around. Otherwise, no other mowing is needed, in my opinion.

Did a late ride on Bartram headed east to West Dam - trail was in perfect condition - no mud, no wet areas and no trees down!
