After having my legs ground into a fine powder in the mtns of north GA last weekend I know I need to hit it hard between now and next month's Snake. So I'm doing the Christmas Party Ride this weekend on the SS, 'cause it makes you work on the steepies in Mistletoe. Maybe do two laps in MT.
Anyone interested? How's 8am at the Keg parking lot sound?

Got two maybes from Facebook. Anyone else? Anyone who can handle 25 miles and about 3hrs of riding is welcome to join.
If you haven't done this ride (and I imagine most of you haven't!) you should really come join us, this is one of the top 3 rides in the CSRA. Not a ton of climbing, but a few steepies in Mistletoe that'll work you. A few technical challenges, and a dozen (or more?) creek crossings. And some nice scenery to boot!

I might be down for this if I can get my bike to stop Ghost Shifting tommorrow. I think it is time to replace the chain I rode Wine last week and it was bugging the hell out of my...wished I was on a single speed. Do you plan on doing two laps or just one at Mistletoe? Scott

Hope you're getting a new cassette too Probably just do one lap in MT, got other stuff to do tomorrow. So that makes 3 of us, with two maybes.

That's the funny part. I already have the cassette, but it is mounted on another wheelset that I have never used. But, I don't have all of the removal tools yet (chain whip, cassette tool, whatever else I am forgetting). Current chain and cassette is about seven years old. I think I have gotten my money's worth out of them. Time to buy some tools.

Agree....I have been shopping around for them as well. Looking to change the gear ratio, I took big ring off years ago and put on a bashguard. I just never used it on the trails I rode, and got tired of slicing my right calf up. The 32/22 combo up front is just too small.

I might be down for this if I can get my bike to stop Ghost Shifting tommorrow. I think it is time to replace the chain Scott Sounds like a cable issue. Ghost shifting rarely, if ever, has anything to do with old rings or chains. If your "stuff" is seven years old, then you probably haven't, if ever, changed out your cables. That is normally the cause of ghosting issues. The housing is not releasing the cable smoothly. Anyway, none of these are huge issues. If you ride your bike more than a thousand miles a year, then yeah, you should swap out the chain/cassette/rings once a year. If not, well, then figure out why the ghost shifting is occurring, and attack from there. MD

I did change the cables about a year ago with a tune up, when I had a similar problem, but now it is recurring.

29°F @8:00AM. Mmmm, mmmm, good ride. DG was schooling me on all kinds of logs today; big ones, medium ones, and little ones. Unfortunately, one of the big logs called him out and he's gonna be sore tomorrow. On the way out of M'toe, DG sized up that bad boy log a few more times and then popped over it, no problemo. DG almost had a flat 29er tire on Keg (and a potentially short ride). Here he is checking his handiwork.

Yep, I'll be sore tomorrow for sure. Two spills today. My foot came unclipped on the big log on the back entrance to MT, I went down on my left shoulder and caught the saddle with my ribs. They already hurt. Second spill was at the end of the rocky offcamber section, front end just washed out on me and I went down, on my left shoulder again.
It was a good ride though! Love both of those trails, especially this time of year with the leaf cover. Good times.

Yep, ribs are bruised. Not terrible, but hurts enough to be bothersome. Laughing and sneezing don't hurt, but hiccups are killer. Going from seated/standing/laying to seated/standing/laying also sucks.
Total damage: scraped up right ankle and calf tiny cut on left leg bruise on left thigh several bruises on upper left leg/groin area (yeah - apparently that was a realllllly close call!) bruised ribs two bruises on my butt, one on each cheek. No idea how they got there, but they're really dark and sore. Both are about 2" in diameter.
Maybe I'm sharing too much with you people?
On a related note: wear a helmet!! One of my old college roommates (Crazy Dustin is what we called him) posted some pics on facebook this weekend...he faceplanted while riding BMX and didn't have a helmet on. The pic right after the crash is pretty bad, scraped up with blood running off his head around his eye. But the pic from the next day is even worse, the area around his right eye is totally black, almost looks like an empty eye socket. He looks like a zombie or something.
