SORBA/CSRA's Fat Tire Foxes now have our own area on the forums! YEAH! Let's start out by introducing ourselves. I have been riding a mountain bike for 12 years. I started in Tucson, AZ, on the Fantasy Island Trail on a fully rigid $300 Univega hybrid. I rode the trail about 15 times before moving to South Carolina in January, 2001. I learned most of my mountain biking skills through the patience and instruction of my husband, who is my main riding partner. I currently ride a Yeti 575, with XTR rear derailleur, XT front der., XT shifters, Avid Juicy hydraulic brakes, XTR wheel set (tubeless), Chris King headset, XT crankset, XT cassette, and Thompson seat post. I love riding all of the trails in the CSRA, and enjoy longer rides connecting the trails by gravel and pavement. I love to participate in local events such as the Baker's Dozen 13 hour endurance race, the Sumter Metric Century, and our yearly Bike Fest. My bike: Post up, ladies, tell us something about yourself, and post a picture if you would like. It would be great to hear from as many ladies as possible, whether you are a SORBA member or not. My first trail bike was a non-suspension bike from Sam's Club..... I was not particularly into riding at that point - I went when pushed. Things didn't change for me until my husband bought a new mountain bike for himself and won a Cannondale Super V-400 from the Cannondale website and gave it to me. That was just over 11 years ago..... no turning back. Finding another couple to ride with so she and I could improve at our own pace and the guys could ride without the constant waiting was the real turning point. 2004 brought a bike upgrade to a wonderful black anodized Santa Cruz Blur (it was much faster - I competed with three of the other Fat Tire Foxes in the Baker's Dozen that year and we took 4th in the 4 person category). In 2010 an anniversary present brought me my current bike - a blue Santa Cruz Carbon LT Blur - Brakes - Avid Ultimates, Wheels - I9 Enduros, Crankset and Derailleur- Shimano XTR, Headset - Chris King, Fork - Rockshok Revelation 20mm Axle, Tires - Tioga Psychos, Pedals - Crank Brothers Egg Beaters, Thompson seatpost, etc. We generally ride at least three times a week and try to take at least two or three out of town bike trips with other bikers during the year - generally heading to Tsali and Dupont State Forest. Had the pleasure of riding Moab and Fruita with friends this past Spring, was a great trip and hope to plan more road trips. Mountain biking is a passion now - I always say you get to spend time in the woods........with friends and loved ones...........AND you get exercise - can it get any better than that! Longest mountain bike ride to date 50 miles, longest road ride 110 miles. Here is my bike and the picture of me is simply to show you don't need to limit yourself just because you aren't in your 20's any longer - without having to blurt out my age!

I think I've been riding siomewhere around 2002-2003. I started riding the canal trail on a hybrid bike. Then I decided that I needed a better bike so I bought an inexpensive hard tail from a local bike store and started riding more. I think the thing that got me really into riding was meeting some SORBA folks hosting a membership drive at the canal trail during the GA games. I met some great folks and saw that adult women mountain bike so i decided to attend the Explore the Trail ride the next month. It was all over after that ... I decided to buy a new bike in 2004, so I got a Santa Cruz Blur, then another, ......and now I have an Intense Spider. I have a group of friends that i usually ride with. Along with the exercise and being a stress reliever, it provides an opportunity to also socialize and have fun. While dating my husband, I got him into riding (he was a road rider, but never mountain biked) and now he rides with us too. We go on several trips during the year to ride in other areas. We always have a great time no matter the weather or if we have to spend the day watching my husband ride his bike while we push ours .

I am originally from Waverly, Ohio and started mountain biking at Scioto Trails and Paint Creek in Southern Ohio back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Moved to Aiken in ’98 and joined the ABC where I found my second love, road biking. While in Aiken, I rode the ORA about twice a week then moved to Blacksburg, Virginia for grad school and rode Pandapas Pond and Carvin’s Cove regularly. My timing was just right because I ended up back in the CSRA in time for the FATS to open. I’ve always had a hardtail, first being a GT Timberline with funky handlebars and the second was a Fuji Tahoe from Cyclesport - both with front suspension. Then this past winter I bought my FS Yeti ASR from Phil…and the angels sang. Love it! Her name is Sweet Sassy Sasquatch (I’m a bit crazy if you haven’t already noticed). My road biking is practically non-existent at this point (too many people texting and life is too valuable) however my husband and I bike commute to work via the towpath every day year round. For this I ride a Fuji Cross Comp I got from Brett. She’s all decked out with a trunk, panniers and fenders (no name though). I can’t say enough about how much I love mountain biking…it’s really a spiritual thing for me and the fact my husband feels the same way only makes it better. I believe it is the best sport on the planet. Oh, I need to mention that our garage also has a number of bikes from AJ’s too…we are very fortunate to have the best LBSs right here in the CSRA.

Yo! Im Heather. I'm 33 and I have lived in Augusta, GA my whole life. I have been mountain biking for just over 2 years. My biggest regret is not having figured out sooner how much I love this sport. Better late than never. I dont ride nearly as often as I would like but when I do it is with some of the all around coolest folks I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I am still working towards being totally comfortable with my bike as an extension of myself. I've learned a lot riding with new friends and I continue to learn more about mtb'ing and myself every time I ride. Joining SORBA-CSRA has introduced me to tons of great people and experiences. I'm always game for riding with new folks. Weekends are best. Feel free to message me.

I seem to be a bit impaired at reducing the pics for posting. Here is one of me in the BD this past weekend (awesome event). The other is from my first ride on the Yeti. Thanks for the links Barbara!

Hello, My name is Traci and I am from the French Lick, In area. I found your forum after researching different areas to plan a trip that would include MTB, and wanted to briefly introuduce myself to the group. I have just recently started MTB in 2010, but in 2011 got serious with it and have ridden some pretty awesome trails within Indiana. I ride a Gary Fisher FS HIFI Deluxe 29R. One of the trails we have ridden is at Brown County, In which just recieved the 2011 EPIC award from IMBA, which I am a member of, but my home trail so to speak is at the newly opened French Lick Spring MTB trail. I noticed that the FATS trail system is a pretty awesome system and said to be fun, fast, and not too technical...all the words I like:) Anyway, my husband and I would like to plan a week trip down(it is 10.5 hours away) and am hoping to find someone who can give us some ideas of good camping areas/hotels, and general information on the trails, etc. Plan to read everyone's post and try and learn more about the trails that you have and am excited to be planning my first biking trip:) Thanks for letting me join..

Traci we can certainly help you plan your trip and give you plenty of options (we have over 150 miles of single track within about 45 minutes). In addition, on your way down from Ohio you might be within striking distance of some great destination mountain bike trails.

Sorry Traci - a friend just pointed out that I referenced your trip down from Ohio when in fact you are from Indiana - at any rate come on down, the weather is beautiful down here and we definitely ride year round (snow is a special treat since we rarely see it). If you check out the weather.com website and look at Augusta, GA under averages you will see that (with exceptions of course) plenty of great times to come - maybe not so much late June through August.

Helloooo! Julie here. Originally from Savannah, have lived all over. I have been mountain biking on and off since 1994. I started in Baltimore during grad school at Loch Raven, Patapsco and Gunpowder Falls. I actually met my husband through mountain biking there. My first bike was a fully rigid $300 Performance bike that my roommate convinced me to get when she started mountain biking. The first ride was on a rails to trails path in the snow. I was immediately hooked. That bike got stolen when my roomie left the garage unlocked but fortunately I had insurance and immediately upgraded to a nicer Performance bike with front shocks, aka Kanga (Becky, I name my bikes too). I rode that one into the ground and got a GT Karakoram (aka Xena, Warrior Bicycle) when I moved to San Francisco in 1997. There I discovered what real mountains were and some gorgeous views. I also discovered road riding there which is very fun but have always preferred mountain biking as riding in the woods seems to channel my inner child. A crazy friend of mine convinced me to do the 24 hours of Adrenaline on her team (twice) which was quite an experience, especially the lap at 2am where you are convinced there is a mountain lion waiting for you in the tree ahead. I've had my GT for about 15 years and it is now my beater bike for riding around neighborhood with my kids. Moved to Augusta at the end of 2005. A few years after moving to Augusta I saw the notice for the ladies rides. I had not been riding for a while and did not really know the area. There I met Barbara and all the wonderful ladies who make this such a great group. Thank y'all for all you do! They got me back into mountain biking and showed me all the great riding to be had in this area. They did not even laugh at my old bike when I rode with them. :-) When my GT finally started having major issues on the trails Barbara and her husband Michael did some research for me and helped me in my decision to finally get a new bike. I have back trouble so with their help I decided to get the Santa Cruz Juliana (aka Arwen) and entered the world of dual suspension. It was the best purchase of my life and I love my bike. The pictures below are me with my new bike that Michael took. I love all the trails around here and live not too far from the tow path. I work full time and my riding schedule has been on and off but hoping to be more on now than off. Always looking for riding buddies. Hoping to see more women join our Fat Tire Foxes as it is for all levels and anyone who wants to have fun.

Hi! I'm Stacey. I got my Giant XTC2 in December of 2009, but I rode the trails many times prior to that on a GT hybrid. Even on skinny tires, when I would fall down a lot, I knew I was in love with mountain biking! Most of my riding has been done around here -- I love New Bartram, Keg Creek and Great Wall at FATS! I've raced the canal singletrack during the Canal Crown Timed Trials a couple years in a row -- just for fun, because I don't consider myself fast! My favorite bike trips have been out West to Southern Utah -- Slick Rock (scared me to death, walked most of the practice loop - ), Amassa Back (while technical, had breathtaking views), Guacamole (atop a Mesa with a variety of terrain). There's so much more to see in this world and I love seeing it by bike! My boyfriend introduced me to this sport and I'll forever be thankful for that! I am also glad that I'm surrounded by lots of ladies that love to ride! Looking forward to more rides with y'all! ;D Attachments:

New Fat Tire Fox!! At the monthly Ladies Ride, Tracie was presented with a surprise birthday present by her husband, Kai. Tracie's daughter, Madison (A Fat Tire Kit?) was also there to see the birthday present. While the ladies were out riding, Madison went out on the trail with Kai. Okay, Tracie, the pic is up so post up and tell us more about yourself!

Funny. Kai used to take care of our horses before I started riding bikes. Tracie was a wicked barrel horse racer. Haven't seen them in more than three years and now we're all out on the trails sans horses.
Neat.
