Yesterday, I was tagging along with PaulF as he was showing KConner emergency access points on BW and Skinny when we happened upon a crash near the top of Skinny. Single rider, dazed, confused, and some blood.
As we approached, another rider, coincidentally a doctor, already had stopped and was on the phone with 911 but didn't know their exact location. PaulF gave the operator our location, directions to the nearest access point, and then rode out to flag down the Fire & Rescue crew.
Meanwhile, KConner pulls out a sophisticated-looking First Aid kit and starts attending to the patient. From my untrained eye: a concussion, facial lacerations, and a whole bunch of knots and bruises. Fire & Rescue showed up within 10 minutes or so (with Paul leading the way), worked on him, and then carried him out to the waiting ambulance. Very professional; both the Merriwether Fire & Rescue folks and our own NMBP. If you see Paul or Keith, give them a pat on the back.
From the location and condition of his helmet, it looks like the guy caught some air, endo'd against the backslope, and then face-planted, with the bike going over or on top of him. Good thing he was wearing a helmet.
p.s. Talk about coincidence... just last week Paul and I were on the DS connector when we rode up on a guy walking with his bike, no helmet, and definitely confused. Long story short, he crashed on DS, woke up face down with bike on top of him, was lost, so he left his helmet at the end of the connector and was wandering back toward DS. We got his helmet (3 chunks of foam missing from the back and a crack along the top), found his girlfriend (who was trail running), rode him up the road to the South lot, and strongly encouraged his girlfriend to take him to the ER.
