Explore the Trail Series Ride
Explore The Trail Ride for is Sunday August 2nd. Meet at Stevens Creek (Modoc) trail head (SC 23) at 9:30am. This ride is for members and non-members and there is no cost. There will be ride leaders for expert, intermediate, and beginner riders.
Come out and enjoy one of our more technical trails. Don't worry about your skill level. You can always tote your bike across the creek crossings if you want.
Or if you're up to the challenge, watch the more experienced riders tackle them...or attempt to. If they make it, follow their line...if not, pick another line! I'm sure some of the riders will hang out to provide demonstrations on how to ride these sections.
The trail is 5.5 miles out and 5.5 miles back, but you can turn around and head back whenever you want to pick the distance most comfortable for you. This trail is a lot of fun and not nearly as tough to ride as you might think. Hope to see you there!
Be safe!

Anyone interested in making this a Connector Ride? I know the route. We'll ride over to Turkey Creek and possibly Wine Creek Trail, too. Then probably take pavement back to Modoc.
I like the idea of doing this, but pulling all the spider webs on Turkey Creek by myself is less than appealing. I'd love a group of about 3-5 to share the webs with. And get in a big day.

John, Let me be sure I got Sunday AM free and we'll plan to do the Connector. Going to Turkey and skipping Wine would be good w/ me. Depends on how I feel, the heat, and the number of webs we gotta pull down.

We had around 18 riders turn out for this morning's Explore the Trail Series Ride at Modoc! This is one of our most technical trails with plenty of tricky creek crossings, but check out the video of Jon Taylor and Luke the Dog making that rock drop creek crossing look easy!! Just click on the video to see it. Before Jon made his run, Dustin Gaddis gave an excellent demonstration of how to tackle this obstacle, but I had my camera in picture mode instead of video when he made his pass. Look for Dustin's pictures in the new Rider Picture bulletin board!

It was my first time at a group ride and first time at Modoc and had a great time! Came home a bit wet though, had a brain leak and forgot to bring a towel . . . I've been lurking here for a while now, it was good to get some faces to go with screen names! BTW I was the guy with the Giant 29er. Hope to see you guys out and about!

It was indeed a good ride today. Modoc is always a fun ride, never know what all the ditch/creeks will look like. I like riding in big groups like that too. It was cool seeing so many new faces.
And that new Giant is a sweet ride. I think the frame is the lightest non-carbon 29er hardtail frame available right now.

Hey Brian! Great to see you out there this morning! The new Giant bike looks nice! Thanks! I think we met before out at FATS once, I was riding a too-small-for-me 10 year old Trek . . . This ride was a great time and I'm ready to do it again! So when and where is the next one?

Yes that's right. As for the next one...it hasn't been announced yet, but probably will be announced at the monthly meeting. Try to make it to the meeting if you can, or just keep an eye on the message boards where it will be posted.
The meeting is held at Nacho Momma's upstairs at 7:30pm on August 11. Come early if you want to get something to eat. Hope to see you there!
Be safe!

I got a rare treat Sunday AM....the chance to sleep in. I think I got out of bed about 9AM.
With my three young kids, I can't recall the last time that happened.
Would have liked to have made the ride, though. Sounds like a good one.

Try to make it to the meeting if you can, or just keep an eye on the message boards where it will be posted. My vote is for Mistletoe. It's a really fun, very unique trail, and it's got to be the most under-rated trail in the CSRA. I want to ride it again, and an explore the trails ride is a great way to do it.

That's a great suggestion Dustin! I second that emotion! Let's bring it up at the meeting next week.
