Here are the details I received in an email from Angela Allen regarding the upcoming Explore the Trail Series Ride at Long Cane Horse Trail. Don't forget to come to the Explore the Trail Series ride this Sunday !! This is a terrific trail system and if you haven't had the pleasure before please come join us! This is an intermediate trail about 25 miles long. There will be a shorter option available but this isn't a beginner's trail (if you are comfortable at FATS this trail will be fine). Allow yourself at least an hour and 15 minutes if you are coming from Augusta. Here is my cell phone number in the event you have a problem finding the trail (unsure of reception in that area) (706) 799-0209. www.fs.fed.us/r8/fms/rec/LCHorse.pdfAngela Directions: From Augusta: Take Fury's Ferry Road north over the bridge into South Carolina (hiway 28) continue on through McCormick...........turn right on hiway 72 and go through Abbeville.......continue on 72 approximately 7 to 8 miles.......watch for Beulah Baptist Church on the right........turn right and you will quickly be on a gravel forest service road.......after approximately 1 mile you will see the 505/506 forest service roads parking lot on the right - park here. From Aiken: Take 25 to Greenwood then turn left onto 72............you will travel approximately 4 to 5 miles and see Beulah Baptist Church on the left........turn left onto the road which will be gravel very quickly......after approximately 1 mile you will see the Forest Service 505/506 parking lot on the right - park here.

Great ride today. The LCHT is awesome. We did about 25 miles...a loop with a couple out/backs splintering off of it. The trail is a mix of old school singletrack that doesn't see alot of horse traffic, old school single that sees plenty of horses and about 10 miles trail that Long Cane Trails designed and built back in 2003 that also sees horse traffic. We didn't see any horses on our ride, but horses had been out there earlier in the day.
Started off on miles of old trail that sees a horse or two every so often. This section was overgrown from the late 90's to just a few years ago. Most of the traffic is bike traffic and the trail is well ridden in. The closer you get to Fell Camp the more evidence of horses.
A few gravel road sections, and you come to a stiff little climb the leads to a fork in the trail. This is where you come into the LCT build stuff. We turned left and rode it to Fell Camp. Turned around and road back to the this spot, rolling left/straight toward the Scenic Area. This section is a few miles of super flowy single that is as good as anything at FATS. Rode this all the way to the metal bridge and turned around and rode back to 505/506.
I'd highly recommend the LCHT to anyone looking for a high quality ride with a mix of terrain and tread and flow. Rocks, roots and high speed, some steep climbs and the largest Shagbark Hickory tree in SC await you.
