Explore the Trails Series Long Cane Trails Sunday, January 9th at 1:30pm ~this ride will be cancelled in the event of rain or poor trail conditions~ Our next Explore the Trails Series ride will be held on the Long Cane Trails near Greenwood, South Carolina.......this will be the first time we have held an Explore the Trail Series ride at this trail. It is approximately an hour and 15 minutes from Augusta to the trailhead so plan accordingly. If you plan to join us please let me know so we can plan for snacks and drinks afterward........feel free to bring friends. This is a great opportunity to socialize with other mountain bikers and get in some great riding after overindulging over the holidays (I'm sure some of you made New Year's Resolutions to ride more.......here is a great opportunity) . If you have any questions, please feel free to email me Angela Communications

These trails are awesome. You will ride the best of both worlds. Trails that are 40 years old mixed with new stuff a few months old.
Starting at the trailhead at 505/506, we have about 8 tenths of a mile of outstanding singletrack that will grab your attention. You cross 505 and collect yourself for second. Get ready for a little more than 3 miles of "being on the rail". It rocks. Swoopy singletrack descents into nice climbs. At four miles, you cross the RR tracks. Some may turn around here and make it an 8 mile ride.
There is another mile of old trail before you hit the new stuff at the big rock. Some may turn around here, but it would a shame as now we are at the new stuff.
Some of the new stuff has a nice fast line ridden in by the locals - thanks. I promise you will be giddy on the ride down to Memorial Bridge and moaning on the way back up!. We'll ride the best of it and then turn around and ride it all back. I'd guess it's 8 miles one way, so a 16 mile out/back. There is more available depending on time and conditions. Also, 505 connects all the back to the car. So, you can always bail out and ride a gravel road all the way back to the car.
There is a little more climbing than most of the other trails, but nothing ridiculously steep. I think most from Augusta will be amazed at what is up there. The best 5 miles on the district are the first 5 miles of this ride. And with the new stuff will be primo if the rain holds off and the equestrians haven't figured out it is all open. They will soon and it could be game over, but lets hope it holds up. I'd get up there on Sunday if you can.
I plan on leading a steadily paced group that is going to ride the above route without alot of stops. Depending on the time, we'll go past Memorial Bridge cause it's good too. I'd like to be on the bikes at 1:30, 1:45 at the latest.

Kudos to the Greenwood gang for being such terrific hosts on the Explore the Trails - Long Cane ride today. Guys that is definitely some extremely sweet single-track...........the weather was perfect......we had 37 riders........can't get much better than that If you haven't made it up to those trails yet definitely take the time sometime soon (in wet weather the horses sometimes create problem areas)....but these trails are generally well-maintained and loads of fun!
