Let's find a date for an informal "ride/race" this fall or winter. The loose rules w/b no 'official course", but 5-6 checkpoints that you must get to. Some roads may or may not be off-limits - need to take a look at the checkpoints. No support, but some pre-determined "drops" will be located for you to drop supplies prior to starting. I'd see it starting in Lick Fork and ending at HKSP. Checkpoints would somewhere on those trails and Wine, Turkey, Modoc and Baker - maybe Plum Branch if we are sadistic. General distance w/b near 100 miles, give or take a few. I will look over my maps and come up with the checkpoints. You just let me know if you are in. Any idea on dates? Perhaps the brief period in Dec when it is only bow season again and we make it an over-night adventure!!!!!

I like the idea of making it an over-nighter, although it may be COLD. Would help to have a nice camp or cabin-type situation set up in the middle somewhere.

I say start at West Dam, ride it then to Lick Fork, Modoc, Turkey and Wine. Camp at Hamilton Branch, then the next morning, head out to PB, BC, and HKSP.

long way on pavement from west dam to lick fork. if shuttles ok, what about lick fork to wine, turkey, modoc to west dam and camp at end of ride in petersburg campground. 67 or so miles - about 33.5 trail. Maybe 20 miles of pavement and the rest dirt and gravel roads. This would be a good ride.
Next day shuttle cars to end in hksp and start in plum branch and ride to the cars via baker creek. not exactly sure of the route, but it sounds like plenty. the old plum branch trail could be the wild card.
it will be a nice welcome home ride for Todd Erskine.
what is a good date?

Sounds like a great idea for a ride to hold us over til the bakers dozen. I think it would be a better ride without having to shuttle, but you guys know the trail much better than me. I would be in definitely!

. I think it would be a better ride without having to shuttle, but you guys know the trail much better than me. Could start and finish at Lick Fork doing half the trail at the start and end of the ride. Leave Lick Fork and head for Wine Creek. Ride Wine, Turkey, Modoc and then back to Lick Fork and ride the second half of the trail. This is the Dark Star route. It is 63-65 miles depending on a few choices made in b/n Turkey and Modoc. Good route as I have done it twice. Still need a date and to hear from people that want to do it.

First ride is Dec 7. It starts and finishes at Lick Fork. Along the way you will ride to Wine, Turkey, Modoc and back to Lick Fork. This is called the Dark Star Loop. The total distance is apox. 65 miles. There is no sag, not swag and no support of any kind. There is a non-manditory $15 donation to SORBA-CSRA which is hightly appreciated. Those making the donation will get their supplies (food, drink, clothing)dropped off at 1 or both feed zones and a detailed map of the ride. If you live around here, you can do this ride at any time you want and not make a $15 donation. I think you should do this on another day if you are opposed to supporting SORBA-CSRA w/ a $15 donation on Dec 7. SORBA-CSRA will use the money to maintain our DR mowers and powerwagon, buy fuel and other supplies as needed to keep our trails in good shape. There is an entire thread on www.bikemag.com - look under "Southeast". Email me, post here or on bikemag.com if you are interested in coming.

How about these: 1. I only talk a good fight. 2. I might get a saddle sore and it will hurt the rest of the holiday season as I sit around on my rear end. 3. I would hate to get one of my breasts caught up in a spoke. 4. There's a yawning festival I just have to attend. 5. I anticipate not feeling good on that day. 6. Thats Pearl Harbor Day, and I have to stay home and watch Pearl Harbor. ;D 7. Give money for a good cause??? I already gave at the office. 8. The cold weather makes my nipples get hard, then they get rubbed raw on my jersey. 9. I did a work party three years ago. 10. I hate that sound when a leaf gets caught in my wheel. 11. Georgia is in the SEC Championship. This only happens once every 20 or so years. 12. The negative dual ocillating air chamber release Johnson rod in my fork is low.

No excuse for me not to do this ride. Unless I'm wrong, this will be a one day ride? or will it continue the next day? If my vehicle arrives from Oregon I can help drop supplies or anything else that may need to be done. Regardless, count me in.

On Saturday, we will be doing some singletrack riding in the parks, but will probably car shuttle in between them. I am camping in Baker Creek that weekend - join us. BV

The group is shaping up nicely. More people jumping on the bandwagon than off it. The maps are being laminated Should have great weather for Sunday. Be at Lick Fork by 8:15 AM to be sure to get your food supplies on the trucks.

I thought it was awesome. Great day to spend 7 hours in the woods on a bike. 11 people braved a cool start, but the day warmed up nicely. Polypropalene was the word of the day. 4 non-locals from Columbia, Macon, Atlanta, and Louisville, KY joined 4 Greenwooders, 2 North Augustans, and ONE PERSON FROM AUGUSTA - a roadie that hadn't been off-road in 18 months!!! Even worse, all the riders from Aiken bailed (they didn't have TJ to do most of the ridin' for 'em, I suppose)! We did raise $165 for SORBA-CSRA, but it is pretty sad when Louisville, Ky has as many riders at a local event as Augusta and more than Aiken can produce. No doubt there will be more of these in the future. I had a great time, rode in a group of 7 most of the day, and covered our 4 "old school" trails in the process. Wish we could have shared the experiece with more people. Ya only live once, so ya may as well ride it when ya get the chance.

Couldn't have said it better! Awesome day of riding with a good group of guys looking to have fun on a brisk Sunday. Good conversation and a lotta laughs made the 63 miler go alot better. How about some representation from the 'gus' on the next crusher?
