As reported at the meeting tonight the registration for the Baker's Dozen is really starting to roll now! I've spoken to a lot of people who are training and putting together teams but I don't see their names on the list yet. Don't risk being shut out reserve your place (registration is limited to 125 riders not 125 teams)........go ahead and get your team registered........only 5 1/2 weeks to go!

This is SORBA-CSRA's major fundraising event and there is no doubt many riders come here ready to ride and win but many others come mainly to support the event and have a lot of fun (I've even seen some of our hard core riders come in and just take a few fun laps and spend the rest of the time cheering the riders on).

Lights - what is required? I assume we need a red tail light and a head light. Can the head light be helmet or bike mounted?
No tail light required. Wouldn't hurt to have one, but it's not necessary.

Your choice on whether to helmet mount or handlebar mount your light (one year I used both but if I only have one I personally prefer helmet mount)- I'll have to look up what we recommended in previous years as to the lumens/candlepower/etc.

Will there be tape on the bridges.. i.e.: the first bridge I think could be easily over cooked and you'd end up in the creek.. Just a thought..

I'll be doing a lap the evening before the race to tape off the course, so I'll take a look at that area and see if some tape would be helpful. Is that the one that's at the bottom of the hill, you turn left across the bridge, it's slightly off-camber, and there's no hardware cloth on it?

Had a young kid fall into the creek there a couple of years back during a BD, but that was it. We have taped the red hill in previous years. That's the little short uphill and right-hander at about the 5.5 mile point, if doing a "normal" HC lap. That one would be seriously nasty if you go over the "cliff". Of course, as you can see in the pic DG posted, we have always taped the normal entry and exit into HC, from the parking lot. MD

Also, there's a switchback I accidently cut on my first lap the other day, I'll tape that area as well. There's a lot of leaves down and I couldn't see the trail, so I turned left and cut the switchback. Noticed my error on lap 2. It'll be very clear on race day.

Hard to say but I suspect there will be people out riding it by late in the week and we can get a report - if needed we can get a crew in there over the weekend. I'll get word out if we determine there is significant work to be done!

Never taped that one before. Had a young kid fall into the creek there a couple of years back during a BD, but that was it. I remember that. That was the year of the burn. Two dads and two kids as a 4-person team. Poor kid dumped it in the creek on his first lap, though he was familiar with the trail.

I'll get word out if we determine there is significant work to be done! We had planned on riding it this afternoon, but there's a good chance of storms and wind, so we'll ride it Friday, and will take the chainsaw. Hopefully there's just the one at the beginning of section 3 Any more than that section though and we may put out a call for assistance. MD

We are ready to help (and help rally the troop if need be) so if you get out there and find more than one or two trees down just give me a call or a text and we'll be there.

Paul and I rode Horn today. Section 1 has one tree down (if trimmed could be a rider) near the uphill rocks (cw) at the parking lot trail head. Section 3 had 11 trees down across the trail and 2 trees down along the trail. All the section 3 trees were down in the first half to three quarters of a mile cw (i.e., well before you get to the winter parking area). Most of the trees were chainsaw worthy and those that were not, were near ones that were.
Edit: Despite the storm, the tread is in outstanding condition. You would hardly know it rained.

The trail is clear.
Quite the storm around Merriwether area last night. Sportmans Corner lost their sign, we had several roads closed for downed trees, and the power was out until after midnight.

vimeo.com/nikedog/bakersdozenDon't laugh, all i had was Muzak, the new iPhone, and limited cameo actors......my Porties were the stars just kidding. One thing I noticed is how the mountain bike community seemed so much more fun than the road and triathlon crowd....Will somebody teach me to ride one of those bikes with big tires like Phil Cohen had Enjoyed myself; even though I arrived by mistake; Fats closed.
